Thread regarding IBM layoffs

14 years

Been with the company for 14 years. Always great reviews (but no raises of course), 48 yrs old and got RA'd with the standard 3 months 1 month sev. Told we can look within IBM but was also told there's a hiring freeze for everyone that got RA'd. How this can be legal and so heartless is beyond me.

"..Once you are RAd you will never get a job internally. That is part of the game, to give you hope. But won’t happen."

FAKE NEWS.

I've seen several people get cut, to then find jobs in other departments that could take them.

Welcome to the club. I did get an interview for an internal spot before leaving. I thought it went well but nothing has come of it and I didn’t expect much going in, but hey it’s good practice nonetheless. Considering how underpaid I was, even if I was given an offer I would not even accept the same salary I had.

I seen someone sit around a one horse town for over a year burning through their savings with delusions that IBM would call them back to work. Huge huge mistake to count on IBM for anything.

Yes, I'm another recently RA'd worker, who can also confirm that you are very unlikely to hear ANYTHING back from an internal job post. Almost as if you've become the invisible man. I was warned about this from people who had tried in earlier rounds, and sure enough, it was true for me, too.

Any former managers visit this site that can comment on what is going on with that?

Why on earth would you look at further IBM positions. Move on! There are so many better opportunities and better firms / better cultures in the consulting industry.

Once you are RA’ed you become a liability and nobody, including your manager ,wants to touch you.

They try and kick you to the street.

A follow-up to that last post: The point is, you could end up getting a c-appy offer and lose your severance.

I'd be careful about applying for positions internally. When I was laid off in 2018, my RA package stated that I could apply for internal jobs but if I got an offer then I might no longer be eligible for the package. Never forget: They are crooks.

Service is hiring, in India. The US service side has shrank almost by 50% and will continue to be reduced. AI is going to kick in and IBM can outsource most of it. Find another job , IBM wants to reduce headcount and doesn’t care about you. I got hit in 2017 along with hundreds of others.

@1ffp is correct, I am in GBS and observing the same thing. This company can’t manage their workforce.

Once you are RAd you will never get a job internally. That is part of the game, to give you hope. But won’t happen.

IBM is hiring right now in services. There is no hiring freeze, its quite the opposite.
They're asking us to refer workers for vacant positions offering us generous referral bonuses.
