Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam’s Club Personnel/People Lead

Hey everyone,

I’m a current Walmart People Lead. Another lead mentioned that Sams had People Leads and eliminated them totally? Is this true?

I know Personnel Coordinator and/or Training Coordinator was eliminated (I was one), but I didn’t know if this other info was correct. People Lead just started for Walmart in July; I’m trying to look ahead and plan for the future.

Maybe that info is inaccurate? If it is true, who does the hiring/orientations/etc. at Sam’s?

Thanks for any/all replies.

Thanks for the replies.

At Walmart they have eliminated PTC, then elevated it to lead, but took no responsibilities away. They are now adding total store schedule and expecting us out on he salesfloor 70+ percent of the time. We can debate the realism of that, especially since it is now the workload of 2 people but with added tasks.

Maybe they are adding things like scheduling and the salesfloor push to try and keep it “relevant” so that the position isn’t eliminated? Weird to have us take over the schedule otherwise.

Unless of course it’s all just a way to transition the schedule while ASMs are eliminated.

Again, thanks for the replies.

Straight into workday it’s been a big a– mess. The amount of time you have to spend on phones is ridiculous, not to mention that they have no clue.

Workday is a disaster, associates coded wrong, i.e. merchandiser coded as lead making more per hour than forklift drivers, can't get cashiers into system to get their operator numbers, interviews are set at the time the candidate wants to come in, no matter if it is during busy time of day. Orientation is set by the candidate, they are sent a job offer letter then they can pick when they want to come to start orientation; including Saturday and Sunday, to which you have a Team Lead off the floor for three or four hours. People are coded to the wrong club, have to go through transfer process to get corrected. Took several candidates almost a month to get through the process, the good candidates usually have other job offers way before Sam's gets around to sending the job offer letter and have thus moved on.

If they make it through the Workday process, then comes the part of I9's, setting up personal files, then filing in PTC office which is just piling up. No-one can answer questions about benefits, when insurance starts, LOA, etc.

Eliminating the PTC was a bad move. All it is going to take is someone to slip up and get a fine on something. To many changes to quickly.

Workday was a software purchase primarily. It’s an HR system used by other companies. It’s cost per club is meaningless because the goal is to implement it at Walmart. 700 clubs test sample vs 1000s of Walmart stores with double the employees.

And you know they don’t care about the fallout at Sams....they’re just going to close the clubs when the profit is too low and convert to e-commerce fulfillment centers. Workday at Sams is just to work out the kinks for Walmart

so how much do you guys think is being spent on workday for each club? i bet it is more than they were paying the PTC.

If so that would like a kid asking his dad to pay him 20 dollars a week to mow the grass. To which the fathers exclaims that's highway robbery ! But then pays the neighbor kid 40 dollars a week to do it.

I don't know how to find out what they are paying for workday but like I said I bet it is more than they were paying ptc s

PTC was totally eliminated. Workday took full affect right after. The hiring process is a disaster.

Straight to 3rd party. There was never a people lead. It's a mess with the new hiring through workday. A big mess!

I had heard of all the third party hiring with some Walmart’s in Canada, so I’m not obvlivious, just curious to hear from Sam’s workers how it goes.

Was there ever a People Lead? Or did Personnel Coordinator just exit and it was straight into Workday/3rd party?
