Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Our Families Matters To!!!

Dear Home office if you’re trying to replicate Costco first you must allow your associates to spend time with their families.. secondly Costco start their merchandising shift at 3am and open at 10, 6 hours to stock NOT 3 steel has excessive amount of holes, no merchandise available for the members.. thirdly selection of morning shifts via SENIORITY is useless, my club highest tenure is 25-30 yrs for about 20-25 associates and the club is a HOT MESS!! TAKE OF THE FOLKS THAT TAKE CARE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!

This is all for the stock holders; cut expenses, profit looks great on the P & L, time to sell before the truth comes out. Stock holders win again. Maybe the Sam's division could be purchased by a company that actually cares about their associates. I am not saying bow down to every associates scheduling wants, I am saying pay a decent wage that a family can live on without having to have a full and a part-time job. Yes, prices would go up to compensate but have associates in the clubs to serve members, put that extra item in the cart to make up for the higher dollar cost. People will pay for great service. Rant over.

The people who don’t complain , don’t have a life and don’t have family issues maybe they need to close and let the people who has family and loves to spend time with family needs to open. Problem solved. It worked before ,oh yeah , that was with out the block scheduling. Silly me . You also have to take in consideration that is our only income. So finding another job and not making the same amount of money will difficult. Especially when we will have another recession. Lay-offs and no one will want to spend money. More business closures Home Office needs get their foot out of their asses and think about us and get rid of block scheduling. Bc they need to make employees happy and that’s will improve business or this company will burn to the ground even further. The quote from Sam Walton said “listen to your employees bc they help make the business grow.” I want to rip that sign down in our break room bc it’s LIES. HOME OFFICE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD , GET RID OF BLOCK SCHEDULING.

For the clubs that it works in the evening crew does not get off at 11:30 and they help stock different areas not just sodas ,water and paper. Theres no way morning crew can stock the club in3 hours. We once had a night crew that had a hard time getting the club properly stocked in a 8 hour shift.

The powers that be don't know what hard work is. They don't sweat they don't bleed and for sure don't care. Their biggest job is to monitor costco for ideas.

So, what is considered a full crew for morning, we have two in Backroom (Claims, Receiving), three maybe four on the floor at 4am, Club Pick up at 5am, Membership (two) at 6 (sign changes and clothing), door greeter at 6 to books, COS at 6 to put out tills, check Photo then to clothing. I forgot one guy at 4am to freezer/cooler. So that leaves three or four to stock the 135,000sq. ft. Club in three hours even with paper, soda and water being already stocked by night crew. They concentrate on resets, pods, end caps and the cart rail. Pallets in aisles, member complaining, so move to receiving then the afternoon/evening crew has to dig through and hope the items can be stocked otherwise wrap and slot in the steel after we close at 8:30pm when they are supposed to be stocking water, paper and soda. We are trying to hire but if they make it through Workday, then orientation they usually do not come back after their first day. The circle continues, so are "The Days of Our Lives".

@10YzRUtF-inz ....I refuse to believe this system is working anywhere in Sam's. I will buy it is working some places better than others but there is no way it is doing well at any club !

We often have only 2 people stocking on the floor from 4 till 7. 2 Thats it. stock everything , change end caps , change runs , change pods...it is HUMANLY impossible to do a good job save but for one pallet at a time. Actually if you focus on the items I was able to stock today well then things are going great ! Wow look how good that one skid looks or how about that one? it sure is dandy. But look at a whole section like grocery or HBA or hardlines and it stinks like a skunk.

We do not now or are we ever going to again have enough people.

Sweetheart do you realize who you’re working for, let me guess you’re a counterpoint or a six figure salary.. you know damn well the direction going in, no one is avoiding the work but take care of the associates and allow the schedule to have a work/ life balance

This new system is working in some clubs in fact some clubs are doing very well so that proves it can work if everyone shows up and performs I see massive terminations coming to eliminate the dead weight we all know what is going on some associates do no like this so they are pretty much not working thinking they will sabotage the process when the company makes changes it is usually takes 2 to 3 years before they make a decision on if it works or not so that means shut up and go to work or quit and find another job I am not saying this is fair or not but it is where we are as associates the bottom line is we either got to work and make the best of it or move on

Wanna know what the biggest difference is between us and Costco, no matter what shift has to be run or what time is available to get it all done?

People.

Costco has an army at their disposal round the clock, whereas we skimp by with the barest of minimums whenever and wherever possible.

Go into any Costco in any city and you'll have seen more employees ten feet into the store than you do inside the entire building of any Sam's Club at any time of the day.

If you really want an eye-opening experience, visit one immediately after the other and make the comparison head-to-f—ing-head. There is not one single thing that Sam's Club does better than Costco. Not one. They absolutely smoke us in every measurable way across the board. It's like the difference between sitting in a brand new Acura MDX versus an old Ford Pinto.

The idea that we want to be like them by making all these changes to how the stores are stocked each day is as laughable as it is inaccurate. You can't restock a 135,000 square foot store with a skeleton crew by 7am or even 10am. It just isn't humanly possible.

They've been doing it for many years because they schedule a horde of people to do it with and give them 7 consecutive hours to get it done, in buildings that are on average, 25,000 square feet larger. We don't even have a quarter of those people from 8pm to 11:30pm and 4am to 7am.

But the major difference is Costco takes care of their people and we don't. That's just the bottom line. They value theirs and we want get rid of as many of ours as we possibly can and then make it as difficult as we can to replace them should we ever decide that we need to.

Sam's Club is just a Mickey Mouse operation on borrowed time.

Amen. Our club is a mess also. I have never see so many holes in the steel in the 10 years I have worked for Sam's. There are pallets of merchandise all over the place. How can they expect the early crew to things done in such a short time before the club is crawling with members? For the afternoon crew, it is worse. They have to work around tons of members. They drag steel around which echoes though out the entire club. It is enough to make you go crazy. The club is going downhill fast.
