Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Something changed

Environment here is clearly toxic towards IBMers who love their job, that's for damn sure.

We loved our jobs too. Something changed.

@1xgy 1993 almost k–led IBM - that's exactly what made IBM change. Lou Gerstner ditched the old "cradle to grave" concept to survive. Which worked... But 100,000 IBMers were laid off over 2-3 years.. and the rest is history. Unfortunately, this is how corporate America runs its businesses. EPS and bottom line come first. Employees are expendable.

It all comes down to one change. In the old IBM there was an agreement between the company and the employee to treat each other well. When the company walked away from that agreement everything started falling apart.

Roadkill always stinks. This started with Sam and his exclusive focus on financial engineering.

The buildings and the people working inside them are toxic. Just work from home and stop dealing with the overbearing freak show managers. What did they ever do for you anyway? Thought so

Culture starts at the top! My opinion is culture has been toxic for years. What a shame. Does not need to be this way and is counterproductive.
