You guys all realize that when a stock splits you end up with twice as many shares priced at half as much, right? Say you own 100 shares of a stock priced at $100 a share that splits. You now own 200 shares of a stock priced at $50 a share. In either case, the value of your investment is still $10,000. And if they were paying a dividend of $2.00 annually on that share valued at $100, they are now only going to give you $1.00 annually.

You have really gained nothing in the transaction.

The thought behind a stock split is that people can now buy a round lot of 100 shares at half the price. Historically, stocks that split do tend to have short term bump in the stock price, but overall stock splits are fairly meaningless in terms of overall return on your investment.

WalMart is so hell bent on cutting costs to bump up the bottom line when they report earnings next quarter. And right now they are trying to cover up all the losses they are taking in their unfortunate decisions they have made in regard to acquiring loser online retail sites.

If you don't get out, buckle up and brace yourself for more pain. Associates are no longer considered to be an asset to the company, but just another cost that needs to be cut.

Sam’s club closest competitor is Costco and there stock is always $140+ over ours. We not only have Sam’s Clubs but Walmart’s and all the international stores too . NOT Costco ! Wal-Mart makes over 15 Billion NET profit yearly . But do not reflect that in our invested stock. Stock has not split in over 22 years !

Because it would double the most they would have to pay in dividends. They won’t take that chance.
