IBM hit with another age discrimination suit: What it means for Red Hat

For its part, IBM executives have referred to recent reductions on earnings conference calls as
“workforce rebalancing,” where it’s about the skills – not the employees. On a recent call, CFO Jim
Kavanaugh said the company was divesting unprofitable business lines and investing in “remixing” its
workforce to focus on high-growth sectors.

It's not about skills, it's about employees, specifically, getting rid of older ones.

“The fact that IBM really considers its diversity inclusion strategy to be a trade secret, that’s amazing,”
she said at the time, months before IBM announced its Red Hat buy.

It's not amazing, it's absolute B.S.

@10gXoXgc-1jpo "If you could replace a couple of Band 10s with Band 7s"

Replacing an Associate Partner with 15+ years of experience with a Senior Consultant 2 years out of school. Makes sense. Maybe next replace Corporate Counsel with a freshly minted Paralegal and then replace the CFO with an 18 year old who just got their book keeping certificate. So much savings to be had and what could possibly go wrong.

This just goes to prove corporations only care about the bottom line and screw over anything or anybody that gets in the way of more profits for execs and shareholders. So look out for yourselves and don't give a sh– about IBM !

@10gXoXgc-1jpo, this is another confirmation that Finance is running IBM... after you wonder why the company is slowly dying...

As those who are treated so disrespectfully find other positions, they influence decision makers at their new workplaces to avoid purchasing anything from IBM. Fortunate or unfortunately, the displaces know first-hand what's under the IBM kimono. They understand the lack of resources, the dearth of innovation and the sad litney of dissatisfied IBM clients.

If IBM spends as much time innovating as it does on scheming to cheat its dedicated work force, we would not be in the situation we are. Speaking of aging, over paid exec, let's start at the top, shall we?

Just to be clear, as a recently retired IBM Exec, older and more expensive employees were targeted. It is driven by how much base salary and corporate overhead or as IBM called it burden rate was associated with the higher band levels. If you could replace a couple of Band 10s with Band 7s, your P&L looked better for the year. And lay off early in the year so you received the full year benefit of this savings.

All of this behavior driven by IBM finance. What a sham for the dedicated employees.
