There have been numerous analyst who’ve expressed concern over the debt load, especially since it’s used to prop up stock price

Also, Union Pacific is doing the stock buybacks with debt. Long term debt is really rising. See the SEC 10-Q report. Does that make sense for a cyclical business with high capital expenditures? Time will tell.

The company self insures for non-agreement. They have United Healthcare to get reduced charges and manage the program, but UP is self insuring NA staff.

The company doesn’t self insure for health benefits for non-agreement.

So that’s why they lay off so many people over 40 - the company self insures for non agreement health, so keep the young healthy ones who rarely get sick.....

With all the lay-offs going on and contract negotiations upon us, bet that our insurance will go up. The company has a smaller pool to insure and that pool is older and more risk for insurers. It will go up, your wages may but insurance will double.

Nobody questions the profits are good at least in the short term. But now that a new college grad would rather work for McDonald’s than UP what does that say about the company? People are embarrassed to work for that company and leaving as fast as they can.

As a shareholder myself, I actually care about the long term viability of the company. Take this quick grab and PSR and shove them up Wall Street’s a–.
