receiving/backroom positions

So, right before the holiday rush, we choose to eliminate 2 receiving/backroom positions–brilliant HO timing. Now, we decide to hire 2 more people in receiving during the less hectic summer months. Is this: a. the HO acknowledging a mistake (seems unlikely since they don't make mistakes) although the vendor charge backs and inventory problems prove it was a mistake. or b. Was this part of the master plan all along? Shake out and get rid of the more experienced and higher paid receiving folks, then replace them with lesser paid newbies. What say you??

If backroom going to 1 then why did our club just hire 2 new ones.. kind of waste to do all that training and then not work that area..1 person can't receive 4 am to 11pm and do claims 7 days.. and yes all fresh leads and others need to learn to receive but half of them refuse to even get a lift license and if you ask me making people do it is just a accident waiting to happen

Don’t know about anyone else but next time I’m offered severance I’m taking it. They took the my productivity app away and didn’t tell anyone on the busiest day of the week and today another dry dc truck that the tags won’t scan.

Sounds like HO logic. Let's take away 2 before the holidays, then add 2 back in over the summer, then cut back down to 1 before the next holiday rush. I would say that is hard to believe, but nothing is hard to believe anymore.

Backroom going to one associate is not going to happen. They cant keep up now with all the freight and taking care of claims. If they do that then they are definitely doing all they can to lose more and more money until it eventually shuts the Sams Division down and they can write it off on taxes as a major loss. Managers being let go I can believe and for the ones that get to remain there good luck. How many leads are actually worthy of being a acting manager, hell ours wont even answer a stupid walkie talkie and miss more work than everyone else. How they remain employed I do not know let alone a team lead.

Backroom will be going to one person as of Q4 of 2019 and will be staying that way. This will be announced around Sept and Oct. The associates who have been there the least amount of time will not be offered severance and can't apply for other jobs in the clubs. There will also be other cuts including managers going down to 1 morning and 1 evening shift manager as most of the job responsibilities will be with the opening and closing team leads.

I think it’s about shaking out experienced people. They have done that to how many other departments?

I think they want to convert over to e-commerce centers in the future. But they don’t want to look like they are greedy and uncaring. So instead of closing 600 stores and retooling them, they are slowly letting them die by removing anyone with experience. This overloads the management and makes them less effective. How’s profitability vs shrink now? Who do you think the corporate board will blame? The clubs or themselves? They’ll have very good financial reason to close the remaining clubs if this is the case.
