Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Monday Monthly "Meltaway" Madness

Rumor has it the new orders for the global multi-phase layoffs are to occur monthly now. This Monday August 5th is the next round. Below are snippits and links to the articles explaining the new marching orders. Hundreds are to be let go the first Monday of every month on a regular cadence.

Larry Ellison explains Oracle's restructuring and layoffs: Some of our business units are 'melting away' and 'we just don't care' Oracle has been conducting rolling layoffs worldwide since March, impacting all sorts of units, including its all-important cloud divisions.
On Wednesday, Oracle founder, chairman and CTO Larry Ellison gave some insight into what's going on, saying that some of Oracle's businesses "are melting away and we just don't care. We are focused on our star products and our star products are now driving our top line higher."
He said shrinking businesses included some old-school, on premises software products. That seems obvious as Oracle is now pushing its customers to buy the cloud versions of many of its products.

Oracle shutters R&D center in China.
Director of Oracle human resources for the Asia-Pacific region makes the following announcement:

Per orders from the U.S. headquarters, Oracle is planning to make some major changes to optimize its business structure, which will inevitably result in huge multi-phase staff reductions globally."

Best wishes. Hope its not true but had to share the latest gossip and rumors from the water cooler. Better to have some warning and explanation than none at all. The gossip pointed out that the last two news worth rounds occurred on the first Monday of the month hitting in June and July. One member of the gossip team says he know a guy who knows this other guy who's cousin works in accounting. You know the drill.

Can anyone confirm?

If a rumor is true they try to suppress it.

How does downvoting a post suppress a rumor? It's still there in plain sight. You're grasping at straws. Plus there was no layoff today. Don't you ever get tired of being wrong? Or is it just a way of life for you?

I haven't heard anything either. Another unsubstantiated, made up rumor whose sole purpose is to scare people.

Why would anyone at O's management even care what the votes are here?

They never tell when layoffs come. They like keeping employees in the dark until it's too late.

If a rumor is true they try to suppress it. I would expect a lot of random news posts to push it down the list so it doesn't show up at the top too.

The blahs blah bitter guy tried that but the layoff site deleted his posts.

Or maybe no one could be bothered to vote?

Lots of votes both up and down on the post and sub posts in this comment thread. Balance is still zero.

Its a sign that someone hacked the system to up vote / down vote everything perfectly.

Has anyone noticed that the +/- on this post and all sub posts is exactly zero?

I think its a sign that the rumor is true. Not because its like its some sort of prophesy being fulfilled by harmonic balance. But a scientific sign. Its a sign that someone hacked the system to up vote / down vote everything perfectly.

Two questions:

  1. Who could or would do this and how?
  2. Why? What benefit could it provide anyone?
  1. Who and how:

It would require someone who could defeat the system by modifying their IP / Address and cookies to by pass the layoff.com voting system. It doesn't require a lot of technical knowledge but it does require more sophistication than the average user has. It also requires a constant investment of time to counter each new vote as it comes in. Unless... it has been programmed by a developer and is hosted somewhere. The programming side would take some time and investment. Either way this person or entity has some resources of time or money to invest.

  1. Why?

Who would benefit? I suppose someone with absolutely no life could get some sort of jolly from this, but it would not provide much benefit outside of a chuckle.

On the other hand if it was Oracle HR working with a developer it could keep the number of up votes / down votes equal so as to not draw attention. The developer would have a very difficult time resetting the view count because he would have to hack the layoff.com site to do so. That would be illegal enough to keep a developer working from Oracle to refuse the work. But an up vote down vote mod would be a couple of days work at most.

The only real reason I can think of to do this is to keep people in the dark because there really is a layoff coming on Monday. For what ever reason Oracle likes to fly under the radar and keep layoffs as secret and unexpected as possible.

This makes me think the rumor is accurate and we will have layoffs tomorrow.
