Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

To be clear on the 6 month and 1 year policy of returning after taking the severance?

Was curious about what the rules and stipulations are and just trying to clear up what the possibilities are?

From what I know you can return to Verizon, if desired, as a contractor after 6 months has passed. After 1 year and with the right demand for your services that can change to being hired back full-time? Is that correct?

I left with the 2010 EISP and came back 4 years later. Had my service bridged because I didn't withdraw my pension. Got my seniority back as well. Several former co-workers came back with me. One of the returnees got to take the 2018 EISP. So it's not true you can't come back. Management has to approve it though.

You are about as clear as a pair of blood shot eyes after a night of finding the way to the bottom of the Padron bottle.

Its like this.

To get back to 1st base here, you have to know who's on 2nd? But you know in your heart of hears that Who's on First. So you know that you really can't in good conscience ask: "who's on second"? Because you already know that's not true. Who's on first.

For non-VSP layoffs, I'll copy and paste what I wrote last week on this subject. IIRC, if you were given, say, 20 weeks of severance, then you could rejoin the company after 20 calendar weeks. What is that, 5 months? But you don't get any time bridged, meaning you start over with only two weeks of paid vacation, the three-year clock for you to be eligible for vesting in your 401(k) starts over, etc. You're a new employee.
If you come back within those 20 weeks, say at 15 weeks, you have to pay back the remainder of the severance (5 weeks in our example), but your time gets bridged. You get to start over accruing vacation at the higher rate, etc. I knew someone who did it (years ago) and was glad to be back. They were actually a great worker and VZ should be glad to have kept them. In fact I think they got promoted after the VSP.

If you took the VSP, you have to get VP approval to come back as an employee. Or you have to work for another company that VZ buys out. Otherwise, never again.
Under both situations, you can come back after six months as a contractor.

Under normal severance conditions, you are usually eligible for rehire as an employee in the future. The conditions of the VSP/ESP though state you cannot come back as an employee. You are still eligible as a contractor after 6 months.

@10kKaKrd-cny I would say everyone's situation is different. I didn't hate my job and "couldn't wait to leave" mentality at VZ. I was given what I thought was a better opportunity at another company for more money so taking the VSP and moving on was gravy. I wasn't aware of all the issues my new employer was having internally and most nights I'm staying until midnight to get the work completed.

This is just me obtaining the information that others can provide. I value the insight of people who have been at the company for a long time. A positive attitude can go a long way and I'm happy for you if you've found a great opportunity after leaving VZ.

6 months as a contractor, never again as an FTE, that's what you signed in the release.
