Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Change brings progress! Store cleaner than ever before!!!

I'm so damn sick of the complainers. Anyone with any type of business education knows that a business HAS to evolve to in order to stay relevant. As I read the posts here and everywhere else one characteristic of them is constant... "Our FSA, Assembler ECT. was a great hard working individual!". Lowe's didn't choose to lay off YOUR FSA or my Assembler, it decided to eliminate positions that we're milking the company. It saddens me that so many people "seemingly the majority of retail workers" can't seem to Remove emotion from business. To top it off the people that are complaining "at least some of them" are a huge part of any REAL problem. One emotional post I read mentioned how it was terrible to let their FSA go because he was a really great guy and that he'd miss the half hour conversations about sports that they had when the FSA clocked I'm every day. Maaayyyyybeeee if the FSA clocked in and then went to work instead of talking for a half hour the store would have looked a little better and whatever position the op has would be better handled. Our FSA was let go and the next morning by 9am our store was cleaner than it has been since I started there. Not to mention there was one less person walking around chatting with and distracting people from actually doing their job. I also read tons of complaints about Lowe's running "skeleton crews"... Every Lowe's store I visit including the one I work in has plenty of bodies on the floor, the problem is that half of them have terrible work ethic. At work you have 1 job and expectation WORK! At any part of the day that you are clocked in just Fu*king WORK. Socialize somewhere else. Everytime you stop to ask a coworker how their days off were and stay as they reply, there is a customer in the store that you could be helping or product that you could be stocking. Lowe's has its problems i.e. out dated technology, corporate but being able to realize that just because we sell 15 bunks of one type of lumber doesn't mean it's going to happen again next week, ECT., but these lay offs aren't one of them. Feel free to say I'm drinking the Kool aid or that I'm sticking manager/ corporate d¡

I had an argument with a PSE about that exact thing about selling. Anyone who works in a Lowe's or HD isn't "selling" The people that come in already have a need. That need is the most important thing. After that selling is a lot easier. I have done both. I thought Lowe's was a selling job but after working direct sales I realized it's more of an order taker job. Yes you still have to build rapport and a relationship but the "need" is there. Direct sales you have to find the need. Find what makes someone interested in buying the product or service you offer. That is 10 times harder if they aren't interested to begin with. The poster obviously is a desk hugger and takes peoples orders. An 18 year old kid can do that. That is why SPIFFS are gone and eventually Specialists will be gone. Doin't need to pay order takers so much money..

Instead of complaining about how "rich" and "educated" executives eliminated your positions, how about learning some useful job skills so other employers will find it useful to hire you.

—. Because it’s much more fun, realizing the people that squandered $100’s of thousands on education, really aren’t very intelligent. They are expendable just like everyone else. You just have to know how to undermine them, without them catching on until it’s too late. Work when they look your way, stop working when they walk away. Understand they don’t care about employees, just their own bonus. The first rule of project mayhem is you do not talk about...

Corporate doesn't have to do benefits, vacation, or sick time. It doesn't matter that you are not productive. That is a given in Lowes. Manager, Asm, Specialist. Specialists are the worst offenders in that they take the term literally.

Instead of complaining about how "rich" and "educated" executives eliminated your positions, how about learning some useful job skills so other employers will find it useful to hire you.

1) No company owes you a job for life. All they owe you is a paycheck at the end of the pay period for the hours you worked. People who have no valuable job skills and who stock shelves, run the cash register, and clean the bathroom are easily replaceable. Anyone with such jobs owes it to himself/herself to acquire more job skills. These are jobs high school kids can do. Don't fool yourself – you're not a "valuable employee."

2) If you start out at a job making $8/hr, stay 9 years and find yourself making $15/hr, you better start saving as much money as you can. Why would a company pay you $15/hr when it can pay a 20 year old $10/hr to do the exact same thing? Do you pay $4/gal for gas when the gas station across the street is selling gas for $2.50/gal? Of course not. Why would anyone expect a company to overpay for non-skilled jobs? Wake the flub up!

3) Instead of being complacent and sitting around waiting for the ax to fall on the next round of Lowe's layoffs, get off your butt and go apply for jobs at other companies. If you have 4-8 years at a company in an unskilled position and you are making 50% more than new hires, your time is coming soon. Don't play the waiting game, because you will lose. Start applying for new jobs now. Take a new job and let the 6-year clock start anew.

4) Be realistic. If you're cleaning, running a cash register, assembling lawn mowers, or selling appliances, you need to improve your job skills. NOW! If you don't start something tomorrow to start improving your job skills, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Good luck!

Lucky You... our store has never been dirtier. We literally had no bags in the trash bins, no toilet paper, garbage on the floor and even the breakroom is a horror story. Store manager has been cleaning it himself because hes horrified by how quickly things went down hill after our FSA was laid off.. The third party company comes in for a few hours and does absolutely nothing. So no, this isn't progress.. at least not in my store.

The negative racial overtones of "woke AF" is palpable. Could it be that the FSA at that store who was laid-off was not as "woke AF' is she/he should've been?

MYOPIC PSYCOPHANT CORPORATE WANNABE TROLL ALERT!

The sad part is this troll obviously doesn’t realize that no matter how much or how hard he or she nuzzles that corporate sack he/she will never, ever be one of them. It’s to bad when a persons only view of their apparent life’s aspiration is from on their knees.

I wonder how this individual will feel when their heroes in North Carolina decide to cut their job whilst playing through the back nine? Because believe me nobody’s job is safe once they start swinging the axe. History has shown us time and again that once a company starts cutting jobs to artificially inflate market value via deceptive growth numbers they rarely stop, they can’t otherwise the whole house of cards comes crashing down.

So I hope this person will come back and post again the praises of their wise and infallible corporate overlords once they find themselves cast out like yesterday’s garbage because chances are sooner or later it will happen.

PS those who b–ch the loudest about others not working are typically the lest productive themselves.

The idea of any one in pro services (the department with chairs and a coffee pot and can't be bothered to pull their own orders) complaining about lazy people is stunning.

"A woke AF Pro Services" Actually had to do some research on that. The rest of the post's grammar was so poor couldn't make any sense out of it. I get where the post is coming from now, doesn't make it right but I get it now.

I do have to agree that it was a extremely deceptive not to inform FSA's or the assembly crews of this restructuring, However the FSA's should have caught on when they changed from the SAM system to Service channel, Shame on me for I was one of those FSA,s. On the earlier comment (Pro specialist) that your FSA did not perform his Job. Then why did you not inform a SM or talk with the FSA personally. I worked for Lowe's for almost for years as a FSA. I was fortunate, I liked a lot of my co-workers. If something needed cleaned, or repaired, or needed serviced It was usually performed. That was my job title. I hope you get a better experience with your new Vendors.

Sounds more to me, like Carvin'- Marvin, or at the least someone he paid to post. Truth is in numbers, the many post you call "ranting"? They clearly out number yours. Lowes will suffer, they are already. Indeed truth is in numbers. Lowes stock has dropped, Home Depot is almost double Lowes. I do not work for Lowes, I never have. I have spent thousands in there. However, not anymore! Not after the callous way they have treated the people that truly do keep thier stores in shape.

The “specialist” that wrote that would be assigned to toilet duty, if I were his manager. If a dog, drops a little some thing. That “specialist” specializes is cleaning.

Full staffed huh, feel lucky. Its friday....and I the millwork specialist am alone (again)after 4 to cover lumber and millworks and hw/t breaks. The company being about evolving and profit is fine, as long as the whole company benefits....not just the board and their puppeteers. Also im not sure you get the use of term "woke" I think what you mean is "blissfully unaware a&&hole pro specialist" weird to get that mixed up

You obviously need to go back to school to learn proper spelling, grammar, and sentence structure before ranting. You only make yourself look even more ignorant than the corporate big-shots looking to pad their pockets! This company is going downhill quite quickly, and now with the help of social media, all of the friends, neighbors and family members of the thousands of good people who heard our voices will be multiplied as newly appointed Home Depot shoppers! "Carvin Marvin" is well on his way to being the destruction of yet another company.

Most FSA’s I have seen have been good and reliable workers. This is all about shedding FT jobs and cutting overhead not about adding people to the floor.

For someone with a lot opinions you sound ignorant when you type "ect" I think you mean "etc" but what do I know. I'm one of those emotional ignorant employees because I think a company should look out for its people ; they expect us to look out for their interests.

You should really layoff the koolaid! In all honesty the Specialist's should have been first to be laidoff. They dont sell anything. Shoppers come in to these big box hardware stores with the intent to purchase what they need anyway. They do it because it's cheap sh– from China and they want to save some money. So get off your high horse and face reality that Specialist are useless in a setting like Lowes.

Why is it always the specialists who act like a–holes? So high and mighty because they make all the money for the stores and f— the rest of us right? In my experience the specialists never want to lift a finger to do sh– in their departments, even if that means standing at a computer for hours because they always have to be ready to make that sale. For f—'s sake you can at least not pile on people who just got fired! Every time there's layoffs, the survivors always claim how we didn't need them anyway. One day it will be your turn, don't get mad when you get the same lack of sympathy

So our store this am on our tasks view- new task included sweeping, cleaning toilets, wiping table in breakroom.

The person assigned to toilet duty - walked into ASM office and asked about the tasks. Five minutes later he laid his vest on the table and walked out for good.
