Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How does the LR process work?

I mean who decides who gets let go? Is it all on the manager to make the cuts or are they told from above who they need to let go? Who decides if it's the lower grades to chop or the higher grades? Who decides how many people in a org get let go and then out of that number how many on a team?

If 9 block is no longer used, what is? Mgrs/Dirs still use something behind the curtain to determine promotions and future.

Long time director here. I agree with the long time manager's posting This round of layoffs was exactly their bullet #3. In security email and amp were different teams. However, email was mainly sold by the amp folks. Email was hit this LR. As for the comment about hire ups selecting who gets let go. Untrue.

Long time manager here. Pulse Surveys have nothing to do with LRs. Things that do:

  1. Financial performance
  2. Prospects for growth
  3. Alignment to strategic objectives

Net/net: if you are in an org that isn't hitting it's financial targets, doesn't have appreciable prospects for future growth and isn't aligned to current strategy then odds are you will be impacted sooner or later.

But as a G12 manager, you also know that the 9 block rating is the start of a person's fate in the dept. (even though Cisco officially doesn't have performance ratings any more). 9 block, age, pay rate (over the mid point). It only takes 2 of those to put you in the critical zone.

From my experience as a G12 manager, the decisions are made way above that level, down to the names of the individuals to go. It never used to be that way but has been over the last 2-3 years.

You did. I don’t know from first hand experience how it works, but I do know some ways it doesn’t work. I have absolutely panned every pulse survey that’s ever been and I’m still here.

All 3 answers so far are about the pulse survey, yet the original question is totally different and asking how the LR process works. Did I miss something?

They are anonymous. Anybody claiming otherwise is peddling stupidity and is a troll.

I gave the worst response on every question of that survey and I wasn't effected. I truly belive the surveys are anonymous.

if you did not leave a positive feedback in your pulse survey, you are automatically entered in the next drawing. None of the surveys are anonymous.
