Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Only people over 50 who are safe are those in management

When I was LR'd, I was given the demographics for my BU. Looking at the numbers, they very carefully kept the oldest person, let go two of the younger people, and then totally targeted those over 45. When 80% of the people in a BU go are over 45, keeping and old guy and letting the token one or two young guys does NOT cover up age discrimination.

There are a lot of people over 50 left...IN MANAGEMENT. Or are now contractors.

I'm worried that any company is going to think twice about hiring me as other than a contractor due to my age. Unless I want to work at Walmart as a greeter.

Good post from @10kwX2TY-heb.

That sounds like Huawei just not so extreme. I hope company won't learn those bad habits from Huawei.

I was LR'd in 2016. Was able to go back to work with a partner fairly soon so I put the Cisco severance package "in the bank". There is very clear age discrimination in Technology companies. If you are over 55 (and I was when let go at Cisco) be ready for challenges in being re-hired. How to deal with it? Network with friends and friends of friends.

I'm done. Love old Cisco, but can't deal with this cycle anymore. It never was about the money primarily. This constant fear of the future is wearing me down. If I am doing a sh!tty job, yes either PIP or sh!tcan me. Wishing those riding it out...good health, and try not to worry.

Hopefully someday this will all change. Then maybe I can come back, and be at peace.
