Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

How badly do you want out?

Would you leave even if it meant significantly lower pay?

Personally, I'm looking for a way out, but not at any cost. However, a coworker is leaving and he told me he is taking a nearly 30 percent pay cut just to get out of here.

Do people really think it's THAT bad here?

ABSOLUTELY! Just recently walked away from all of it! No amount of $$, benefits, vacation, or anything else deemed of value from HI was worth sticking around for! Haven’t found a job yet but am negotiating. Being offered wages that I made over 12 years ago but there is no price tag for peace of mind! There is life outside of Honeyhe//, and meaningful, enjoyable, fulfilling employment! You just have to go with what you know and do what you gotta do. AND IN YOUR GUT, YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN A BAD SITUATION. Good luck my friend!

I want out. Not just Honeywell, but of engineering altogether. Things were good when I started 13 years ago, but their toxic culture has turned an eager young engineer into one bereft of any sort of passion for the field. I'll still be here in 40 years time though because I have no idea what else to do with my life.

I would take a 10% pay cut to cut my commute in half.
I would take a 20% pay cut to be allowed to work remotely.
I would take a 30% cut to work on a project that was interesting and relevant.
ONLY reason I stay is that I am locked into my current location by family commitments.
So I continue to work on unethical projects supporting the machine of war around the world.
Remember the Honeywell Hopkins Plant? I do.

Let's say for example, you were paid between $50-$70/hr. At Donkey-Well, you're clocking between 50-80 hours. But you get paid only for a 40 hour week.

So, if you do the math, then you'll figure out that you're in a losing field-environment. Logically, it follows, you're worse off than flipping burgers and Dairy-A– is busy milking the Dairy from you (MOOO!)

Gone and it is glorious! No more overtime and working nights and weekends. No more ridiculous powerpoint charts that said nothing. No more political BS. Some things in life are worth more than money.

Don't know of anybody that has left that place to be any worse off after leaving. It's amazing how you understand how that place s—ed the life out of you while you worked there.

Depending on what your position is a paycut isn't necessarily a foregone conclusion. I left a year ago for a promotion and a significant pay increase. The recruiter told me I was under paid. I was honestly hoping HI would walk me to the door when I gave notice but I had to complete my last 2 weeks. The only drawback for me other than walking away from my 401k match that year was having to start over on vacation accrual. But now I have a 9/80 work week and better benefits with a lot more money in my check. And I don't have to work overtime.

Making 20% less in the wake of being laid off by Honeywell after 32 years, and it's much, much better.

I haven't worked a weekend since leaving and, during the week, my day doesn't start til I get to the office, and I actually don't work anymore once I leave. No more getting up at 3 or 4 A.M to meet with India, work 10 hours at Honeywell, then go home and work 4 - 6 more hours remotely.

This is way more valuable than the dollars.

I left a little under 3 years ago. I took a decrease in pay of about 6.25%, but that was offset by a reduction in health insurance premiums of about 35% and a reasonable bonus program with new employer. The toughest hit to take was in the decrease in vacation/PTO. But that was also offset by the fact that I no longer dread the thought of going to work, and with the reduction in stress I haven't had so much as a mild case of the sniffles in almost 3 years. This along with being allowed to carry over vacation/PTO has left me with a comfortable balance of vacation/PTO after a little under 3 years. This all after the age of 55 by the way.

I took a 50% pay cut when I left 5 years ago. I must say retirement has been fantastic. Try it you'll love it.

Over here at PMT/UOP alot us older timers love working for UOP but now with Honeywell in here its PSH UNREAL here and sure alot us would love to go or see UOP away from Honeywell.
