There are folks who love a challenge. It’s in their nature. I’m positive Lisa has more money than she knows what to do with, BUT my guess is she is quasi bored, and this is a challenge that will keep her busy for a couple of years. Why did Gerstner take the CEO position. He certainly didn’t need the money, but he certainly loved the challenge. I would say at least 50% of the CEO’s out there are in this position and just love to”figure it out”.
Not going to happen. What person in their right mind would join IBM? Especially from a rock star company like AMD, which is poised for historic growth and market share gain. What exactly would motivate her to jump ships?
Yep. Her first act needs to be to fire 90% of SVPs, GMs, and VPs. Get rid of all these glorified accountants and replace them with entrepreneurial leaders who are capable of actually growing their businesses. Get everyone focused on customers and products/services rather than spreadsheets and daily cadence calls.
These same things were being said about Microsoft under Ballmer. Then Nadella came along and look where they are. Everyone and I mean everyone knows IBM has to change the exec management team. IBM board just need to pull the trigger The New CEO will have to make some very hard changes, but it will save IBM if they are “good” hard changes. The business environment has moved since Ginni took over. It’s time to move the business
In all honesty, this would be great for IBM. Look what she did for AMD - if she can do half as much with IBM we are golden. I just don't know why she'd even consider leaving her current position to take on the mess IBM is right now...
