Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Part of the 5k(?) LR; overwhelmingly 40yrs old+ group let go from San Jose campus, is this age discrimination?

Hey folks I’m part of the recent LR of 5k(?) employees, where Cisco took pain to repeat that my dept belongs to STANDAlone Nexus division and this was nothing more than a business reason. Have had great performance reviews , am in my mid 40s, and so yeah 22 years at Cisco means I was recruited right out of college. But looking at the 650 or so positions they ‘eliminated’ it seems more than 95% + are 40 and above years old employees.

Is this ground for age discrimination? I know they took great pain to recite all the legal codes they’re following, but I think a lawyer would need to see this(?). What do you think?

Maybe the lawyer who took the IBM case would take on Cisco, especially since at least one person has reported that execs clearly communicated a strategy to “age down” the company.

Cisco does it by the book, so most employment lawyers will not take your case. Believe me, many have tried.

There have been cases I know where Cisco settled for an additional few months added to the package, but there must have been a clear eff-up. Two cases I know about:

  • Someone that was 60+ and on a LT medical leave
  • Someone who was about to score another internal job but IT cut off their system and building access in a monumental eff-up, hence messing up his final interviews
  • Someone else who, upon returning from a LT medical leave, got laid off right away - but in the meantime the exact same position had been posted as a req

None of them made a ton of money, though, and it may well mean they're now blacklisted as future employees.

The only way to do this is to see if you can come up with "smoking gun" evidence from an inside source. Do you have a "Deep Throat" who can spill the beans on the goings-on inside the big building?
Otherwise, Cisco's team of 100 lawyers has already threaded the legal needle on this. They know how to screw you and get away with it.

Old people can retire. We lots of young people who can't find a decent job after graduating. You been milking that Cisco cow dry, move over, let's us youngies take a sip.

No questions, I was part of Nov 2018 layoff group, 95% of folks who attended the LHH sessions were 45+, and the receptionist at LHH didn't hesitate to comment that the folks she is seeing in Cisco layoff is old people.

Think it is time to SUE Cisco …..
