Thread regarding Mondelez International Inc. layoffs

Top tip offs to DSD being phased out (or not)

First let's list the facts, then let's see if any of us can cite a reason other than DSD ending for each fact.
(Anyone feel free to add to my list)

  1. Wal Mart and Kroger now have locked EDI orders.
  2. Shelf facings are down after latest big chain resets.
  3. Results of 2018 DSD cost benefit analysis never announced ( a poor result would NEVER be announced as we would all assume the worst)
  4. Unusually high number of supply side out of stocks and allocations in the last year or so
  5. Recent implementation of outside applications like Easy Shift and Wal Mart Volt

I'll try a few other explanations for these other than DSD being phased out, even if I'm not sure I buy them.

  1. Kroger and Wal Mart want control over what is in their back rooms, EDI gives them that
  2. Competition/more store items resulted in Mondelez losing facings
  3. Information announced, but we never heard it at ground level
  4. Issues with the bakers not having enough lines to run
  5. Outside applications are better at collecting the data we need and giving information accounts like Wal Mart want.

Easy shift is to gain proprietary data. Without relying on Nielsen.

Easy shift is to validate execution, not sure how using easy shift has anything to do with exiting DSD. It's a very expensive program used to make sure we are executing in store.

Out of stocks are due to growth and to issues on supply lines. Mostly because of when Irene was here.

It's ok. They said that they're committed to dsd! They wouldn't lie to us would they?!?!?!?!?

I worked for nestle and an ASL had a meeting a year ago saying “we are committed to dsd” and telling the new hires “ you can make this a career” and “ you gave a future here”. They even shelled out serious cash for new trucks and equipment. Yet a year later DSD is shutting down. I’ve been doing this for thirty years and I’ve seen this pattern over and over. Big corporate is going to do what makes sense for THEM even if it doesn’t make any sense to YOU.....

The Smiths stores here in my area of the Northwest are locked orders..Smiths is a subsidiary of Kroger and IS basically Kroger in these areas, since we don't have "Kroger" here.

I’m ready for the severance already. Just give me the severance and I’ll be on my way. I’m seeing it, managers don’t even care anymore.

My Kroger stores are still open cao orders. If yours are locked I'm sure everyone's will be locked soon.

You won’t get any answers, but here are a few other thoughts for your list....
1) over 5 years back Mondelez condensed branches throughout the country, creating distribution centers. Most DC are running at half capacity, with less than half the pick lines being used, although they continue to increase the size of the DC’s.
2) location of the DC’s in proximity to retailer’s warehouses.
West Chester is a perfect example, operating at half capacity, just doubled the size, and sits between wal mart grocery fulfillment center and new Kroger warehouse.
3)Influx of in-line competition, driving down the cost of product, this creating slimmer margins.
4)Product coming now pack 6, not 12. Retailer initiative!
5)Industry trend.

In the end Mondelez management will continue with the “we are committed to DSD”, they will ultimately put the onus on the retailers! We are in the final phases! GS said jobs were safe through 2019....leaves 2020 wide open!! That’s 6 months away! Do yourself a favor, wake up!!
