As other said here the training and learning is on you, I too got offered a pos on this Dept when mine was closing out. On the plus side I was shock when found out how much this pos is paid and benefits, on the con side the learning and disorganization across the field...at least where I got into. Other thing I should mention is that if you are young you will be getting a well paid job but the skills and experience only applies to carriers and it is not very dynamic so my advice is that if you are young take it, learn and while at it use the co benefits to get an education on something else more marketable and then you can move up internally or anywhere else.

Great benefits, etc like people have said, but be prepared very very little training with bunches of systems nobody will teach you to navigate well.

Sorry to say that 2pxj Is exactly right about this. You'll get new equipment to Integrate, turn up, troubleshoot, and have very little formal training on it. If you are lucky you'll get a slide deck maybe even a conference call to discuss it, but that is about it. Project Management and Equip Engineering don't care if you struggle. Maybe your boss may not care either until his/her head is in a vice on a bunch of conference calls. Then it's all on you! And let's not talk about the fact that many times the contractors are not installing and cabling up the equipment correctly. Sometimes they don't even get the right prints to work off of. This is not to scare you away. There are ways around this. Take charge of your own training. Ask questions! Identify the folks who know their way around their jobs, and shadow them. Many techs with the help of other techs develop cheat sheet directions called MOPs to help them through difficult configuration and Integration procedures. Know how to transfer files back and forth from a lap top to a piece of gear using terminal emulation programs. In order to get up to speed faster, you may need to study installation/integration/troubleshooting/ and test gear proceedures on your own at night, off the clock! If you do these things, you will be successful at any telecom company. Because these problems are not unique to VZ. So now you know what to expect. But if you can get the gig, you'll make a good living.

I am a field tech non union and I work about 20-25 hours a week. I am able to drop my kids off at school, take my dog to the vet, reply to a few emails to look busy, run a computer repair gig on the side, then on the way to pick up my kids from school. If you can get a field assurance job in verizon it will be the easiest job you will ever have in your life

From a recently Voluntary Seperation person. Get your application in! Why not? If you get a full time position, Verizon offers great pay, time off,401K,profit sharing, also a Short Term Incentive program that could be worth thousands of dollars. Get that application in! If you start a new job with Verizon or any company changes don't really effect you like those who have been here for years. So don't wait....apply!

Timeless. Companies want people who show up for work. Common sense.

those network jobs in nc are there in nc because there is no job security and that do not provide retirement benefits. if you get a job there join a cwa union and fight for job security and benefits thats what we have done in the north east. we have no layoff and i get 401k, health care and almost $700,000 pension when i retire.

To whom it may concern:
What do you mean by "strict attendance and tardiness policies" ? Break it down for craft and management!

Take it. At the very least it looks great on a resume that you worked for a Fortune 25 company. I am sure the board will bash this. But a lot of companies of love Verizon employees because of the strict attendance & tardiness policies.

Verizon has been going through a lot of layoffs over the last few years. Not stable at all.
