Safety First use to be their motto. It was even printed on their pens and pencils. But now it seems they could care less about the employees safety the way they work ya to death without a rest between trains. This isn't a desk job that could be done without breaking a sweat, its hard labor in extreme weather and men do need a break between trains. But it's now profits first as they cut more that 50% of the Carman jobs, with no rest between trains... All while the college boys sit on their asses and look for reasons to fire the guys that move the freight...I hope all you stock holders sleep good at night...

Safety is always important, and the RR has tried to reinvent something was realized long ago; that the employee has the greatest influence over safety. Safety is a mindset, an attitude and it is in your hands. Paying for extra management to check boxes on clipboards does not affect safety or efficiency. The results are in and too many cooks spoiled the broth. The company has to depend on well trained crews to let us know what to look for. Reporting locomotive defects depends on crews consitently reporting problems. Technology is only as good as our technicians. Instead of managers and mechanical forces "passing the buck" down to other terminals, we are moving towards real time reporting. The crews have more influence over the conditions and status of the trains they run. Rest is another area where crews tell us what they want and we try to accomodate for more or less time. Patience is all we ask. Precision railroading includes all aspects of railroad life. The changes are focused on making safety and service the best in the business. We want ideal conditions for the men and women who do the work, and the customer who buys our service. Safety will always be number one, and the people who want to be part of our goals and efforts will have a long and rewarding career.
seems like after they got rid of the ftx program the sky didn't fall out. guess it was a waste of time to begin with. only people that miss it are DROS and MOPS.
If you’re unable to manage your safety they’ll manage it for you. It’s a good thing. Why should I get hurt because you’re not competent?
Yes you’re right. You need no advice and you’re happy and proud to not want any accountability. mo–n.
all these UP fanboys on here taking up for the company every chance they get. laughable. even funnier they think they are qualified to give life advice. they are the least qualified.
Of course they’re going to look if you broke a rule and got injured. That’s life. If you k–l someone in a car accident after you ran a red light you just might get a ticket. Do you think you should never face consequences for your actions? How many people do you know that faked or milked an injury? There’s a lot of them and you know it. If you don’t want any accountability, sell pencils on a street corner. Or, play by the rules.
They cut half the carman where I work and the other half still don’t get it. Couldn’t find a bad order if they had too
Safety training, rules, stand downs have always been tools used to help keep liabilities and claims down. If someone gets hurt, they always try to find a way to put the blame the injured person. Then they point to the rule that was broken allowing the accident or injury. They have never cared about keeping us “safe”.
Safety was always just a motto though. Never actually cared. “If you’re not sure say something and pull the domino.” Yeah right. That’s just pillow talk for the safety stand down. Ever tried actually doing that and helping out a new guy? “What are you guys doing down there????? You’re delaying the train!!!!”
