Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

BNYM is ripe for lawsuits....

Based on the content of the recent posts, it's conceivable that many of you have been targeted, based on age-discrimination which is a federal offense. Form a Facebook group, for instance "BNYM-Lawsuit", create anonymous accounts to protect your identities and join/gather, and work with a legal team that will review this case.

BNY should sue all the id–ts they’re about to lay-off for wasting its resources.

This is exactly the reason BNY Mellon give you a severance package. It is not to help you out after they lay you off. It is because when you sign the severance package you sign away your rights to sue the company. If you want to go all in and sue BNY Mellon you have to refuse the severance package and not receive the sub payments which most people will not do

The only option for people 60 and over was for the bank to offer early retirement which is more expensive then keeping them. Companies can never win firing someone within 5 years of Social Security. It's been tried.

People 40 to 60 can claim they were targeted, and you don't have to go to the EEOC first.

BNY seems to be keeping 60+ maybe because they will voluntarily retire soon so not get SUB pay. And these people seem to tolerate the awful conditions because it might be difficult to find another job.

Maybe people younger that that have been let go. In my department that has many long term employees, the ones laid off have been mostly in their 50s. They are often delighted to have SUB pay and a nice paid vacation before moving on to a better job (because just about anything is better than BNY).

Many younger than that have voluntarily left for better jobs somewhere else.

I am not sure there have been many age-based offenses, other than keeping people 60+ that would prefer to get laid off with SUB. And I think BNY actually provides age and other statistics to each laid off employee.

I will be interested in other comments, to find out what else is going on.
