Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Can this happen?

This might be a stupid question amid all the layoffs, but I'm just wondering if there is any chance Cisco will try to keep me after I submit my resignation due to finding a better-paid job? I'd prefer to stay, but the difference in pay is too significant to ignore.

Is there any chance I'd be offered a raise by Cisco to stay?

It happens on occasion. You have to be a very high value player, and working on an important product, and/or your VP has to have the leeway to make it happen. If your VP is on the outs it won't happen. Also, the cases I know where this happened, the individual was not looking for a counter offer. If that is your goal I'd say you're barking up the wrong tree. Those who are valuable and know they are don't play such a game.

I don't know about your particular management, but if you have a firm offer in hand somewhere else, go to your manager and talk about it rather than just submitting your resignation in the system.

Not likely. One of my friend was in the similar situation. He was a key player in the team. He was promised given a good bonus, rsu and pay raise (but not much). And told him he will be promoted once budget is available. But not even close to what he offered outside.

Depends where you are. I’ve seen it happen. They leave eventually anyway because the underlying factors haven’t changed.

There has to come a time when people get tired of working for a company whose modus operandi is M&A (acquiring a company and adding their revenue to Cisco's balance sheet) and LR (reducing expenses by getting rid of the highest-paid or oldest (or both) people in their department). Why would you want to stay?

More than likely what everyone said is true. But someone recently posted that they turned in their 2 week notice and after declining several incentives to stay (what they were i DNR), the manager got p-ss-d and was shown the door right away. HR got involved supposedly.

Anyway take the money and run because if you are not on the $h1tlist now, you will be if you try to play that game. Plus down the road, you will not have to post on here asking about the details of the package that awaits :)

If you have an outside offer, just take. Cisco is a sinking ship.

Take the offer and leave (if money is the deciding factor) . No counter offers ever

If you submit your resignation via email to your manager, he/she will respond to you within a few minutes to thank you for your service and wish you good luck in your new job. No counter offers or begging you to stay will happen, especially in the current environment where Cisco is looking to shed headcount.
