Block Schedule

For everyones information if someone wants to change your schedule they have to ask you first before changing it. It is perfectly fine to say NO if you dont want to come in on your day off. And if you do make sure you get something in return for coming in (like another day off that you want or a weekend) The problem here is that we get a manager who wants to change our schedule and somehow they get us to agree to it and then we complain about it later. Lets put a stop to it and use block scheduling to our advantage.

Let's see if I got this right.

Managers need hourlies to work whenever they need them?

So because managers spend the least amount of time on schedules and when there is a supposed visit. Hourlies are expected to work against their schedule and or work overtime. Followed immediately by going back to their schedules and no overtime.

Managers decided their emergency/short comings is my responsibility, but managers refuse to hold all associates to the same accountability so managers expect everyone to be a team player in crunch time.

Bottom line their emergency issue is not my problem. If as an hourly I am expected to take on more responsibility and be a pseudo-manager. Pay me like one.

Also if I am expected to do the work of 3 or more associates. I think I should get their pay.

Our club tells you to check your schedule daily. Which is hilarious! Who lives daily checking their schedule. Cashiers schedules change daily and sometimes less than 24 hours and no one communicates or asks you to change your schedule. So many complaints. My advice is to print or take pictures with time and date so you can take it to home office so they can hold management accountable for not red lining schedules per policy.

the reality was that the on line schedules were often posted, then changed at a later date, which is why I printed mine, When I did not show up for a shift, I pulled out the schedule and showed the mgr that I was not scheduled. Still got points, even with proof. One reason why I happily left

Wow, let's get the SOP here so everyone can calm down. If the schedule is already posted (associate can see online) then a manager is supposed to get schedule red lined. Yes, I know, clubs are not even printing their schedules and placing in the schedule book. If a manager gets you to change schedule and does not red line then you cannot be held responsible for not working. Now, this is where you choose what to do; do you take the no call, no show, then fight to get your point back? Your choice, probably will have to open door to CM , you will have to state red line policy to get points back.

Now if the schedule is not posted then a manager has the right to change your block schedule time and/or day(s) off to serve the best needs of the Club, i.e. shortage of associates, event day, resets, etc.
If you do not work you will accrue points that Open Door to CM will not overturn.

One more possibility here, your manager gives you at least twenty four hours notice with a witness, i.e. another manager, team lead, that needs of the business require you to work a different shift or change your day off, you are required to work. Points will accrue if you do not.

Best practice is to keep lines of communication open with ypur direct manager. Choose your battles carefully, five points in six months and you are in termination range.

I’ve posted on this site numerous times, expressing how we need to adapt to huge changes and do the job we are payed to do. However, (XNI), you sound like a straight up douche, and I’m sure nobody respects you at work or at home. You don’t own your associates and home office set up block scheduling for a reason. People have already had to rearrange their personal lives for the block scheduling, they owe the company nothing more.

If a manager treats people with respect, they almost never have a hard time finding volunteers to change their schedule.

Your threats are as weak as a squirrel fart.

As a Merchandising Team Lead, I tell my team to check their schedules every week. I TOO check becauase I don't trust management. As the OP said, a manager has to ask you first which is the rule set forth by block scheduling. If a manager does change their schedules, I already have proof of what the original schedule was. Business needs or not, the rules are the rules for a reason. My manager is too busy snapchatting to check anything anyway so I do it because its the right thing to do. Folk below are talking about weeding out the OP. Remember, its easy to weed out a manger too, especially with more changes looming.

The reason your easy to get rid of is because your not there for the best interests of the Club. We all have to make sacrifices to ensure our team and Club are in good standings and in line with expectations to make sure we ALL have a job at the end of the day to take care of our families. People like you are replaceable because no one cares of your there or not because you don’t care about your team! It’s simple your not what we want in our building. You probably do nothing and complain, bring down moral and spread negativity all day while on the clock. I’d start holding you accountable for job performance and weed you out too!!!

How are people like me easy to get rid of. Because i stand up for myself. I know you dont like it but its the truth. I make sure i take care of myself first and make sure i have time for my family. Of i die tomorrow my replacement will be here in a blink of an eye. So i make sure i do what i have to do to make sure i’m good first.....sooo DONT TOUCH MY SCHEDULE.

Managers need to follow rules just the same as anyone...but they think we should always be ready to give and they not return any giving..just as Sam's owes me nothing I in return owe them nothing. ..

Maybe my club is the exception but our GM and managers always ask if we can work one of our days off and take another. Usually it's because of a visit or event and we have been told that that during the holidays that schedules will probably be adjusted to cover for the event weekends. Is it a perfect system, no, but nothing is and no matter how it is done there will always be people who will not like it and voice their complaints. One of the best associates we have in the morning is also one of the biggest complainers as well. Some people are wired that way.
