Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Are we an experiment?

Do you think Lowe's management has pinpointed stores in which it is trying to figure out what's the bare minimum of people and hours a store can run on and still semi-function?

We are barely managing to get everything done on what we have currently, and the hits keep coming. We just lost three more people (they quit, it was their decision) and there are no plans to hire anybody to replace them. We have to pick up their work. And if we can't, I quote "they'll find somebody who can."

Is it like this everywhere?

Our relatively small store normally has about 100-110 employees at any time. Currently we are down to 75 (I believe) with many more about to leave. Tonight we only had 6 people closing the store. 2 cashiers, 2 managers, 2 people working the floor. We don't even have a store manager right now. There was some invite only store meeting today hosted by a manager from a nearby town who said he fired 3 people last week. It seems like this is what's going to keep happening. Most of our shortage is from people quitting instead of being fired; mostly because we have people covering 4 departments by themselves and part timers getting overtime that can't really work that much as a lot of them are in school. However they aren't hiring people really so it's like this is just the new norm.

the post about "stop pushing yourself" is unfortunately the only way there is any chance of things changing. For those of us with a work ethic and some moral fiber it is difficult to believe this way, but having the stores drastically fail would be the only way a message is sent. Even that may not stop the perversion that these companies embrace. Several coordinated work stoppages at strategic times would need to happen. Can you imagine two or three times during let's say the black november holiday period having stores covered by only the four or five managers? Doing that once may not hurt them enough so this would take multiple events. Coordinating that is next to impossible so maybe we just need to bend over, wipe off our chins and carry on like good little soldiers

Part time at our store usually make it to the three month mark then they cut their hours and give all the hours to the new person that just started and they found another job rinse repeat

The best thing everyone can do is to stop pushing themselves. They can't get people in now so by all means let them try and find people willing to do the work of three with what little they want to pay now. Let it fail, don't stress yourself fighting to force their ideas to work.

Our Tool Department has been without a FT CSA since late May, running with 3 1/2 PT CSAs.

Hardware is down to 1 FT and 1 PT, been that way a month when the 2nd PT quit for a new job.

Same at my store. We had the remaining 3 full timers in my department quit over the summer. Now they are trying to run the department with just 3 part time associates. We keep hearing that we will be getting a full timer to help out but it’s been 2 months and still no one.

When I went in for a late afternoon shift yesterday, there was freight on the floor and a couple departments were still working IRPs. One department's closer called out, so their near to useless DS had to cover.
