Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford Needs to Change

We have relied too much on quality focused test fleets, late design changes, and launch teams to save the day. Times are changing and vehicles are getting more complicated. And we are losing experienced people.

Ford is a leader in rework, on-site mods, and late changes. Champions of those activities have become our executives.

When blow-ups occur we add more checks/inspections in manufacturing. We talk about doing better designs upstream but that doesn't seem to be getting the leadership and support to make a measurable difference.

"One Team" does not exist. Many quality and manf eng think the design engineers are not very good. The d&R's think the prototype and launch teams are not very bright and too inflexible.

IMO it looks bad

The company is never going to change. They have HR behind managers just force-ranking employees with their RWG process, related work group, with supervisors that do not even know half of the people they are rating. If you're over 55 and close to retirement, bye bye love. I cannot believe they get away with this legally. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO glad I'm out of there.

Amen to that. We are better of doing building renovations and furnitures instead of make cars.

This is not just a problem in manufacturing and engineering; it is just as bad in IT, too.

The problem unfortunately is at the top; the CEO seems to actually believe all the hype about the mystical qualities of minimal viable product, as if it is a reality. That might be OK for a cheap app you purchase from your phone (and even those that are not highly rated out of the box, if not corrected very so, go by the wayside very quickly) - but it is absolutely horrible for vehicle design and critical computer systems that run the company.....but because that is what the CEO believes, that si what we do.

I sincerity doubt the family cares anymore, they are old world money at this point, so all the nonsense that they life off the F stock dividend is just that - nonsense. I am actively looking to get out; I suggest everyone that reads this site make the same plans. When the end comes, it never looks or smells very good. God help us all, and god bless everyone whom is doing herculean efforts to try to keep the ship afloat while Jimmy and his kids paddle it around in endless circles.

Never time to do it right – always time to do it over.
