Today my father who’s worked for Schwab for nearly 30 years got laid off. It’s really heartbreaking because he’s spent the majority of his life with this company. For everyone who lost their job today, I’m so sorry and I feel for you.

Guys, this is sad, no doubt, but look at it this way - you now have the chance to go find something better! You evaluate the trade off when investing your money, so why not your time? Take care, guys, you will be fine!!!
Schwab uses a third party company for facility services
He’s 52 and didn’t start as a janitor but definitely worked his way up.
It's difficult. Assuming your dad was a janitor that started at 18, he'd be 48. Still potentially can get another job, as he hasn't hit that magically taboo age of over 50. However, if he was in a more professional type position at Schwab, that required a college education, at best he started at 22. Which means he'd be 52 now. Pretty much toast at that age. However, if he got a Masters or Doctorate pHD, then he'd probably be closer to 60. I'd say he can forget 'about it.
Yes, I'm so sorry. Unfortunately, corporations are just that, corporations. Your Dad has been a valuable and dedicated employee, he should be proud. Hoping he finds something better.
