Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Non MOP management riding trains in an effort to determine why velocity is down...LOL

Of course they hop on Z trains and nothing that has work

And most are just college grads with no railroad experience beyond their old Thomas the Train set...

Typical geniuses

Had 2 kids ride along from the........IT department! Yup, they were in for a long day and doubt they learned anything helpful for their department.

I am a manager at Union Pacific railroad you will respect my authority!

Ok. 🤣🤣. Good one kid. Get on the train young man and I hope you brought a lunch. We got at least 12 hours ahead of us. Oh you don’t get paid overtime? That’s unfortunate. How many days in a row have you worked again I don’t think I heard correctly? That’s also unfortunate. Well, let’s tone up dispatch.

@2dif: If that happened (it seems plausible), then it is on the manager to refer to their offer letter, which is the contract between the employee and the company regarding the job requirements and the salary paid for fulfilling those requirements. It is not a living document. If it doesn't say something is a part of the job in that that letter, then the employee isn't required to do it. Even elastic language such as "other duties as assigned" only cover job functions within the scope of the employees primary function and job title.

This is one reason why companies like UP have a seemingly strange fetish for new college graduates; they haven't yet been thrown under the bus by a large company and often know little about federal and state labor laws. UP is keen to exploit their youth and naivety, often under the guise of "training".

I don't think these kids could change a tire let alone switch anything out enroute...

Reminds me of when UPS went on strike and all the managers were driving and delivering packages in their khakis and polo shirts or when Alaska Airlines had a strike and managers from corporate were temporary flight attendants.

This already being done so don't be surprised when it happens here.

I hope all you TEY fellas see this for what it is. They are forcing them to become familiar with the territories so they can get qualified to run freight when the lawsuit and contract negotiations fail and a strike is looming.

@OP: They're sending fresh college grads because they can neither hire nor retain any qualified degreed professionals with relevant experience and skills.

The only people with university qualifications who will come to work for UP are the stupid and the desperate. Don't worry, those new grads are all looking for other jobs and they will be gone as soon as they find one.
