UP has laid off thousands of frontline employees over the past 12 months and this is never reported to media. Everyday u see a large Corp laying off people making headline news yet UP continues to lay off employees "under the radar". Why is the media not picking up on this?!!
Im a mechanic for UP and have seen my dept cut by over 50 percent. UP is creating an unsafe environment by cutting manpower yet workloads remain the same. Their current motto being do more with less.. they've closed multiple yards across US and eliminated rules all to boost their bottom line.

So you contact the news and make a scene. That doesn’t and won’t change anything. And you calling the news doesn’t make your story newsworthy. Everyone that cares and some that don’t already know the UP is laying off. PSR and layoffs are old news. It started over a decade ago. There’s only one class 1 that’s not participating. Sorry the general public doesn't care but they don’t.

The fact is, as with any company that goes through large layoffs, after a couple days of news stories it becomes old news. What do you expect the media to say? Yep... they did what they said? That’s not news. There’s nothing new to report on.
The average person doesn't contact Union Pacific to ship something. That's probably why there is little interest. If there is a major derailment or accident...then it is newsworthy.
National media, no care. Local media laid down like your favorite rug.
It is reported by the media but it’s just one of those things unless it affects you directly people don’t care. Also whenever UP posts a story about something on Facebook or twitter there are usually tons of comments from people calling them out on their bs propaganda and talking about the layoffs. UP is quick to delete any mention from people taking about layoffs and so all the comments that remain permanently are stupid comments from foamers.
