UP Glassdoor overall rating continues to fall to 19%. CEO rating down to 11. Eventually they'll match at 0%.

This despite several recent obvious fake reviews such as a 5 star review on October 03, 2019 from a "former MYO in San Antonio" with the title "Make the railroad great again" whose advice to management is to: "Keep evolving to embrace change and build lasting relationships within the organization". Pros include "Gain extensive and prestigious management experience."

Who is not recognizing an opposing thesis. Your thesis is recognized. And it still won’t change the UP making money and their ability to railroad. As far as defending the UP... I haven’t read anything defending them. You haven’t written anything that folks don’t already know. Get over yourself. Now what? You’re angry and can’t shake it and the UP keeps ticking. Stock is up nearly $90/share since just three years ago. It’s split three times in the last thirteen. As much as it pains you... they’re doing something right. Not everything. But some things they do very well. That doesn’t make me a foamer. I’m not. I’m not even an employee.

That's like, uh, exactly what you keep doing.

Your latest post is just a Gish gallop of one non-sequitur followed by another. You keep failing to respond to (or even recognize) the opposing thesis. If your strategy is to keep moving the goalposts and Gish galloping in the hope that people will think you're correct then all I say is good luck with that.

This dude from HR and/or mngt would prefer if we just accept it and move on and don’t say anything to anyone. Lol. Who’s angry? People are just discussing experiences and facts. I’d say if anyone is angry it’s the people that have to defend UP at every corner and crevice.

Nobody is disputing your point. The fact remains UP will continue to do business and make massive amounts of money. People will continue to put up with the current climate and new employees will continue to come onboard as needed. Their world will move on without you. Right or wrong... that’s the bottom line. So let it go, shed the anger and move on and be happy. People at any business have something to complain about. Years ago our shop had watermelons catered in on all three shifts. An employee was angry that they weren’t seedless. Pizzas were brought in on all three shifts and people complained that it wasn’t their favorite brand. Donuts were brought in and there were complaints that it wasn’t healthy. The complaints will never stop. Big or small, people complain. Always have, always will. And the railroad keeps railroading.

How current and future employees perceive management and company culture has a massive effect on the company's bottom line, and crucially, the sustainability of their gains and future growth. Open a copy of Fortune or any other business publication and find me an example of a successful business that doesn't invest in the well-being of their employees. Apple, Microsoft, Google, Raytheon, Exxon-Mobil, Goldman Sachs; the list goes on and on. It's almost like UP is the only company on the list that doesn't get that.

Your attempts at downplaying the torrent of negative reviews on Glassdoor and other similar sites doesn't wash with UP's response. UP clearly knows it has an image problem.

The success that UP has is due mostly to being part of a duopoly on freight rail traffic in the western two-thirds if the US and controlling all but one major freight rail line in/out of Mexico. By your standards the average state DMV would be a successful enterprise. Most reasonable people would disagree.

Yes. The part of success that will keep them in business with large profits. The warm and fuzzy part that you seek on Glass Door is relatively insignificant in the companies bottom line. Your anger doesn’t hurt the company. It only hurts you, so you might want to try a different approach.

@1ofz: Nobody is questioning that. There will always be someone desperate for a job, and UP will always be able to find someone (qualified or not) to fill vacant positions.

The question is whether UP will be able to get the people with the needed skills and qualifications. When I was there UP was staffing critical management positions with fresh college graduates from second and third tier schools, often with majors that didn't correlate to the positions they were hired for. Many didn't last a year. Few stayed more than five years. That isn't the way to build a successful enterprise. On top of that, the pay is below average when you account for the amount of time spent on the job, traveling, etc. $85k/year to work 60 hour weeks, every week, all year long? Keep it.

The railroad will get the employees it needs when they need them regardless of Glass Door. After two centuries, do you really think this is the episode that’s going to sink the ship? No. They’ll keep chugging along. Trust me, as stated below. Before Fritz it was Hunter(CN, CP and CSX) and the roads are doing just fine. So will this one.

@1wos: Recruiters and hiring managers for companies of all sizes take the content of Glassdoor quite seriously, and apparently so does UP, because they keep asking employees in Omaha to leave positive reviews, and pro-UP trolls spam the site every time the CEO approval rating drops a percentage point. It isn't looking much better over at Indeed either.

The CEO appears to bottom out at 11%. Every time he gets down there a bunch of obviously false positive reviews with generic wording appear on the site to bring it back up.

Accounting for a 2% to 4% statistical error, the actual CEO approval rating is probably closer to 8%, which is virtually zero. If I was the leader of a company where almost 9/10 people hated me I would find another place to work.
