Does anyone know what the internal promotion raise % is going from 7T to 7V? If you are on the lower end of the 7T scale and you get promoted do you go to the bottom of the 7v scale? Not much info on 7T out there.

"how many sleepless nights and s—ing all colors ball does it take to get DMTS at VZ??" – took me 15 years to move from SMTS to DMTS. I was the last person in my group who got that direct promotion, these days you have to "apply" for DMTS position when it opens up, HR is very against promoting to DMTS.

I know directors who have over 300k base, in BR. They have a lot of tenure.

The ranges change depending on where you are geographically located. Verizon has 4 geographic area and each location falls into one of those areas. So the max for a SMTS in Basking Ridge (level 3) would be higher than SMTS in Little Rock AK but less than SMTS in NYC or San Fran.

DMTS band 6 made about 160K as base salary, and that was 2 years ago. Your data is misled.

For starting that isn't bad. You'll also get a 10% STI each year and raises are pretty consistent at 3%+

Inverse pay bands (lower is more money) but translates to a 2nd level manager for top IC pay band. Glassdoor shows Distinguished Engineers / DMTS averaging $150k.

Night and day from AT&T whose management level engineers have 4 levels:

  • Senior (1st level mgr) $120k cap
  • Principal (2nd level mgr) $160k cap
  • Lead (Director) $220k cap
  • Distinguished (VP) $280k cap
