I had a back and forth about this with a hardcore UP foamer on the original thread. What foamers don't get is that UP is "successful" because they're part of a duopoly on freight rail traffic in the western two-thirds of the country. By the average foamer's standards, the state DMV is also a successful enterprise. The same people conveniently forget that UP began as a government (read: public sector) company, and benefited from large public subsidies and land grants for decades.
UP stands as a shining example of corporate welfare. They aren't capitalists. They're monopolists with a profit motive.
