Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Integrity=Highballin

Is the Carmen craft becoming obsolete? Id like to open up a discussion on the latest state of affairs at the class 1 yards left. For instance, West Colton from what I have heard are no longer inspecting, just pushing cars through as fast as possible inbound and outbound. Bad orders are are at all time low and holdin steady. Speed restrictions are no longer used, Fra is all but non exsistent as well as a safety atmosphere. Are the Carmen that scared of losing there jobs that there integrity has been thrown out the window? Are they so beaten down that when Management and Supervisors show them some B.S production graph used from a windows 7 template they cant even question its validity? Or is West Colton the only Car Department that no longer gives a sh– and just riding the wave out? What hump yards are left that can relate?

Most of the carman at Dupo pulled their pants down and bent over a long time ago, just what the company wants, no one to blame but the people themselves, you make your own bed.

The Carman Union even takes the money out of your check after you been furloughed. Us covered under the WARN act and got paid. The old Carman Union kept on dipping which I think is trash.

The carman union has to step up. The local unions are trying but they National ain’t doing anything. The president of the tcu makes 368,000 a year and he does nothing

The Carmen are in a tough spot. There is absolutley no Union backing them up anymore, its like they have crawled under a rock and are scared to face the company. Its a helpless feeling not knowing if you will get fired or not for doing your job. Why isnt the Union around to help? They sure take that money from you every month.

Keep educating yourselves on FRA B/Os. Read the book and understand it. Tag everything FRA, document it. Make sure it gets repaired. If the bosses end up pulling cards report it. Same goes for locomotive and TE&Y. If management breaks FRA regulations turn them in! Don’t get discouraged if nothing comes of it, keep reporting. Also, State and local government officials is also a way to report FRA violations if you don’t feel like the safety hotline or ethics line isn’t working. Don’t back down!!!

Report management/supervisors for pulling Legit BOs. Document it all and report it to FRA / safety hotline / Ethics line! From My experience this does work. Just make sure it’s a legit FRA B/O and have all the documentation in order. Car department they can’t fire you for bad ordering FRA defects! That would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

“Let it ride.” Most famous words spoken by foreman, field managers, yard masters, dispatchers, and corridor managers. “Highball boys. We got plenty of time to talk about safety at the next courage to care meeting.”
