Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Not trying to be rude but...

So many people on here sound entitled. No job is ever safe in corporate America. You should all be blessed to even have the opportunity and be thankful to be able to work. Some people are mentally/physically disabled who cannot. Be positive. Having UHC or Optum on your resume is fabulous and if you think your job is in jeopardy...start networking...start applying. You are not entitled to a job. Business is business. Trashing a company that has fed your family will not help.

I remember that happening to a 35 year employee being laid off on PTO. We all received an email that she was no longer with the company. This was news to her coworkers and they called her. She had no idea she was being let go. They tried to pull the email back but too late. Horrible company.

Our employee engagement scores are 85% negative, would you recommend united healthcare as a place to work high eighties in the negative. That says it all. In my department they laid off 16 people out of 26. One entire department was gone, entire subject matter experts gone and told oh you are technical you can just do their work too. Not without some sort of knowledge. Busted my a– to learn the new area just so our customers would not be impacted. One day working late with no pay (exempt) a lightbulb came on, if I am going to work late, it's not going to be for this company. I can do freelancing. Stress makes you more creative in some cases, survival mode kicks in or something. So that is my new mindset. Freelancing my time instead of giving it to UHC. They will be a customer of mine rather than my whole world. I will do the same brillant work I do for them, because that is what I get paid for and work ethic demands but no more free time given. Let management deal with the crushing work load. It takes away the bitter taste. Now others will also get my time and I will be compensated for my worth. Something to think about while you are possibly unemployed looking for work or working but giving your time away for free.

I'm still employed but how the company has handled these layoffs is sneaky. One of my coworkers was laid off while she was on PTO! Not to mention this has occurred shortly before the holiday season. The PTO accrual is generous but folks will lose anything accrued over 40 hours unless they live in a state where UHG by law is forced to pay out all earned PTO. Over the last 2 years I have followed several HubConnect discussion threads related to internally applying to job posts. Finding another position within the company is extremely difficult. I thought my nearly 50 submissions without any positve outcomes was bad...other people had even worse experiences. I was able to transfer twice in my early years, once due to nearly all people in my department having been laid off. I loved working here for the first 5 years. For the past few years, not so much... except for many fantastic colleagues.

To the one "not trying to be rude" who has found a job, but still spends his/her time (probably a him) on a layoff forum: Go find something else to do! I don't know what the hell you are talking about?? There is not a single open job in my discipline at UHG now. Maybe instead of trolling people that are going through a stressful, difficult time in their lives, you should find a more productive outlet. I also don't know how you find the time to troll between all of the job interviews you have, not to mention all of the job offers you have to wade through. Telling people to get over it is not helpful. It just pisses everyone off. I hope UHG is paying you to do this, because if you're doing it for free it's sadly pathetic.

See I don’t think people understand this post. YOUR JOB IS NEVER SAFE. So never stop networking and have a backup plan. Don’t burn bridges or become disgruntled. And last time I checked, there are other jobs within the company you can apply for. So if you are all 4 star employees like you say you are, you shouldn’t have an issue. Turn this into a positive and treat it as a new beginning. Maybe heading to these layoffs threads makes your life even more miserable and negative. I was laid off a few weeks back and ALREADY offered a job! I always stayed positive and believed in myself. It appears many people on here just need a kick in the butt and someone tell them to stay positive and work your tail off to find something else.

I am not trying to be rude. but we have some very rude actors. Human Capital is executing all of this. Look up the names Mary Hengen and James Hengen. You will find a cherished Human Capital Executive and the activities of her wayward husband and wayward brother in law. The message is that you should get as much as you can as soon as you can.
We can agree that insider trading is a crime. Fire dedicated colleagues by day and perpetrate criminal behavior by night. That is not normal. Intimidated work forces are very inefficient. You lose 30% productivity by intimidating your workforce. It is not cost-effective.

I believe you had good intentions here, however your ignorance shows. They didn’t feed my family. I fed my family and kept a roof over our heads by offering up my time and effort in working for them. They in turn paid me money for my time and efforts. Walk in the shoes of those you ridiculed and perhaps your thoughts may change slightly. Most feel absolutely betrayed I’m sure. You show up every day for many years (Over 12 in my case), put in everything you can give, meet or exceed all of their expectations on reviews, receive numerous recognition rewards and nominations and you still are just a disposable number to them. No cares in the world what happens to you or your family. This is not a company going under who has to cut staff just to survive a bit longer. The executives just want more money in their pockets and they are willing to get rid of long-standing loyal workers to do that. I liked the company and still do, however I completely disagree with the heartless way they are performing these layoffs. They have no compassion like they supposedly strive for.

obvious your job is confirmed or have someone supporting you in the 300k dollar club your comments about the handicapped is ignorant. 9/11 changed America forever the fear of terroism and more recently boarder control. The truth is terroism is alive and well in America the best way to destroy a country is financially. This is what is happening here make no mistake about it. Forcing people to accept less pay and possibly becoming dependent on public services. Oh my mistake those dont really exist anymore. You are entitled to your opinion but maybe best expressed at the next Trump deporables rally

MILLIONAIRES at the Top arguing with other Millionaires at the top on who's wealth they can raid and get away with it. Dipping into the little people's wealth that make it all go is often the only move they can think of and it's that fastest way for them to steal it. Customers - also the little people for the most part - don't matter when you control the price and a huge chunk of the Industry.

With automation and labor costs it is a smart business decision. Apply for other jobs within company if you qualify or look elsewhere. Like I said a job is never guaranteed. And I worked at 3 other corporates. Uhg benefits are not bad. Shoot my last job at a corporate we didn’t even get bonuses. So count your blessings and stay positives btw I m part of lay-off and have 3 interviews lined up and all are impressed with my resume.

I am grateful to work for UHC/Optum. However, it is hard to reconcile the huge profits and financial success of the corporation (as reported at Q3 Town Hall), and letting dedicated employees go after years of service, who depend on their pay to meet their financial obligations. Yes, we should all have emergency savings and there's severance yadda yadda yadda. I still think good leadership would make effort to redirect current employees' talents within UHG, and not overseas.

My guess is that you're part of UHG Human Capital trolling message boards. UHG is not "giving" us anything and is not feeding our families. This is work in exchange for pay. When I receive a paycheck I am feeding my family, not UHG. UHG provides nothing above or beyond what it has to. Benefits are terrible. UHG should be thanking me for working there and for all the work I have done over 2 decades to improve their business. I owe them nothing and neither do you. Your message is tone deaf especially for those who are over 50. They will not have an easy time finding a job. UHG could do much more. Other companies provide placement help and retraining – UHG doesn't. They need to do more for those they are terminating without notice. Trashing a company that treats their employees poorly is completely fair and appropriate.

You're right, to a point. If you think UHG letting a COBRA letter slip through open enrollment and all of the other petty things that have gone on since 2017 is ok, I have two words.
People used to be proud to work for this organization, it wasn't "corporate " to them.
Watching it faceplant is a sad thing. and that's really what is going on. It's embarrassing for UHG/UHC/OPTUM
