Vacation policy

I love the hurt union feelings on the eweb on the vacation policy for management.

Just an FYI 12 weeks FMLA is non paid. The company only gives union 10 paid days incidental absence unless you go out on STD

We don't get 12 weeks of paid FMLA.

@4fma...

BS. I dont use any sick days, so I get a nice $1550.00 attendance bonus in the spring. Some of my co-workers who work a lot of OT would rather have time off, so they use 4 sick days to do whatever they want. Their managers are not allowed to ask whether they are actually "ill" or just taking a "mental health" day. The only people who actually use the 10 are people who are going to use short term disability. I did that a few years ago when I had surgery on my pinky finger. It was nice, all spring and summer off, with a little brace on my left hand, at full pay. I had to take it off when I went to the pool or the beach.

That same year my manager had back surgery. He took six days off. He came back and limped and cried and couldn't sit straight. He spent most of the day zonked out on painkillers. He never completely recovered, because he didn't go to PT as his surgeon had recommended. He was, like most Verizon managers, "job-scared."

Don't be so excited about it...you haven't heard about what they will take away from you.

Something is coming, and I wish I knew what it was.

What is the new Management vacation policy?

by

Post ID: @2usx+11NGgWq3

The comments on that article were embarrassing to say the least. Both sides are guilty. The company mass emailed their new Management vacation policy for a reason....division....AND IT WORKED! The fact that they are still allowing comments to be posted on it, speaks volumes about it's intent! Don't be sheep, open your eyes - don't get s—ed into the negativity. The next thing you know, they'll offer the union the extra week vacation but take something back (and that will have been their original plan). Geez - wake up - stop grabbing the now and giving up the future - it's exactly what they want!

What changed? Did union get additional vacation days or personal days?

It’s ok I will keep my bargained vacation days . I will also use those extra six days also . When they rid the managers , I will ask them in their way out with that little box about their extra vacation time . LMAO

They only made the change because they are making vacation bidding enterprise wide for everyone to be on same vacation rules to make it easier than needing to know someone’s hire date and “oh when they were hired they got 5 weeks at 15 years but that person was hired when the rule changed so they get 5th week after 20 yrs etc”. They don’t make these changes to be nice it’s out of necessity for the new vacation bid.

All this hatred started with lowell McAdams and the regime top executives from Boston, for years stirring the pot,now you bring in a CEO that destroyed Ericsson, so let's all play nicey nicey, wireless hates the unions, union hates the wireless, managment hate non management ,you got directors and VP's in this company that think they are mafia bosses, act like everyone under them is a peion ,you got 2nd and 3rd levels who were pieces of c-ap and get overs when they were non-management ,others that thinks their better than the other guy or girl, lets just screw over your employees mentality. I guess upper upper management feels that's the best way to run a billion dollar company, this is the vz culture ,some movie director should make a comedy of this place...what a shame

@@11NGgWq3-srh there were just as many nasty comments by the bargained-for employees as there were for management. It was embarrassing to read. They should shut down commenting on that post.

Extra week of vacation for when you're ultimately laid off is a great perk.

By the way, not union.

And I just received official communication from vzguide that some of the commenters will be receiving official documented coaching regarding their comments on the eweb, based partly on my complaints.

Hope it was worth it. A few seconds of trolling to k–l all chances of promotion for the next 7 years...

You have to earn your 6 weeks vacation in 2020. It's not available on day 1. On 16th of every month they add so many vacation hours to you.

Leaving 3rd week of Feb 2020. Using carry over vacation from this year and 5 weeks vacation next year. I'm thankful to have this vacation time based on my seniority, (31 years )
which was negotiated for by our union. We have all benefited from previous generations of workers that have opened the door of opportunity for us. Both union and management have had the ability to afford to live in a way that many others in our country could only wish for, but never achieve. Sad that VZ doesn't say this enough but....... Good luck to all and thank you all for everything you do everyday in a increasingly difficult and challenging work environment.

I love hearing ( and getting) generous vacation time, regardless of who or why gets it.
That is how workplace standards as a whole are raised in this industry and others.
Slowly but surely, the balance between work and home is becoming a Hot Topic talking point. It’s a darling project of HR services everywhere. This is a good thing.
Don’t begrudge anyone a great deal, it’s the right direction as a whole.

Vacation is no big deal, I'll take my pension over a week off any day. What pisses me off is the special employee YouTube tv offer, which is available to every other person in America. What's the matter, you couldn't get us $10 off a month or something?

If the company had made the vacation policy worse, do you think the union associates would be upset that they have a collectively bargained contract? Union and non union employees have different benefits and rules based on the CBA (or lack of one).

I don't think anyone is trying to say union employees aren't valuable or they don't work hard, but why would the company give them more vacation outside of bargaining? If union members want a similar vacation plan, they will need to make some concession during the next bargaining window.

Unions (like management positions) have pros and cons. You can't take all the pros (healthcare cost, pension, layoff protection) without the negatives (vacation policy, Employee Phone Programe, etc).

The shill who posted this is using the ol' divide and conquer strategy. If we worker bees and lower level management keep fighting with each other we won't realize that the puppetmasters are taking 11 of 12 donuts and leaving us to split the last one . I'm not falling for it.

Job security and a pension? I’ll take that over a little more slack on the leash around a manager’s neck any day. (Don’t get mad, get even)
