To get rid of tenured employees who make too much?

To target older employees?

Just guessing.

It's all about the money, nothing else.

The fastest way for companies to save money is to cut labor costs. It`s that easy.

@fpf

You actually compared long term employees to feces? You've spent a bit too much time in Bentonville and have become corporately dumb. Sounds like a Pink Floyd song.

Anyway, the rest of us can take solace in the knowledge that you'll spend your next eternity committing an anatomically impossible act in a really warm climate.

In Walmart's case, it's the constant effort to achieve the same outcome with fewer people on the payroll. That the process ultimately wreaks havoc operationally because those who are left aren't necessarily able to collectively accomplish what was possible when there were more people, is unimportant. All that matters is that the stores are open for business and people continue to shop in them.

are you talking about actual traditional layoffs or are you talking about job cuts ? A traditional layoff is when a company stops operations all together for a period of time or cuts back on operations for a period of time .. .in either case it usually is a time of cutting expenses due to slowed business....in a traditional layoff most if not all the employees layed off are called back to resume their duties. In companies that do this those employees who stay year after year plan for the layoff in their personal budgets. IE the get part time jobs for the time of the layoff or simply budget to cover the unpaid time

What Sam's did when they closed all those clubs was not a layoff but rather across the board job terminations. If you could not find for yourself another position in the company it was sorry, have a good life........

Companies are living organisms; much like a human being.

They have a pulse that varies based on activity and stress; they perspire, stink, and need an occasional shower; they grow at some rate until predetermined limits are met; and they need to enjoy regular bowel movements.

This is where layoffs come in. They are the company’s method of expelling processed waste, followed by a rigorous wiping stage. This cleans the chute for the next load of excrement that will invariably serve no useful purpose.

So this is why people are laid off. They are either excess fat that the body needs to expel, or they have had all available nutritional value milked out of them and it is time for them to be purged to the nearest septic tank.
