Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Walmart name

Anyone else think having the walmart name on your resume, hurts your chances of finding another job?.

This is why I look down at people who turn down opportunities for promotion because "it's too much work".

It's one thing if you're near retirement age or just working to get out of the house, but besides that, why not build up your resume?

It's common knowledge in the corporate world that for all the headache that goes with working for Sam's and Walmart, being a team Lead or manager means you have alot of responsibility and experience doing everything from staffing to P&L, policy and standards, etc (at least on paper you do).

Get your experience and get a better job. That's what I did.

Let’s just say there’s people who got fired for stealing and that didn’t stop them from finding a better job.
Just remember always lie about how much you’ve made.

My experience at Sam's got me my better job. Becoming a lead over different areas and staying with the company for many years absolutely helped.

It depends on the person reading the resume and what their own individual perception is regarding Walmart. Say you have ten or more years with this company and you have a wide range of experience in different positions and have been promoted up to management level; There are going to be those who believe that you may have nerves of steel, as it is a widely-known fact that Walmart puts their people through quite a fair amount of, shall we say, "stress", throughout their time with them. To some, the fact that you may have lasted through all that conveys a certain level of resilience, which may be something that they're impressed with. Others may feel that too much time with this company, particularly in leadership roles, means you likely picked some bad habits along the way and will not consider it in their interest to take you on. I don't believe that there is one singular, prevailing perception on the outside that is held by the majority of the other potential employers. As with anything, there are going to those who see Walmart or Sam's Club on a resume and run the other way, and there are those who aren't deterred by that. In the end, it really comes down to how well you, as an individual, present yourself to them.

The opposite actually. There are a lot of companies that will snatch anyone up from Walmart that has some experience. Especially leadership experience.
