There is nothing ibm has that amazon wants.
Let’s look at the financial equation. Let’s give the poster full credit, and say Amazon wants Watson/AI. Would Amazon want the rest of IBM and all of the baggage it brings? I don’t believe it would be in Amazons interest to take on that baggage. There are other major companies that would benefit far more from taking on IBM. Oracle and Google would benefit financially far more in their go to market strategy via buying IBM
Don't be naive Amazon is a tech powerhouse they don't want a tech dinosaur company like IBM.
Our execs would take over and destroy the merged company
If IBM had bought Amazon back in the day they would have Blue-strangled it and today there would be no cloud.
The author's knowledge of AI and cloud seems to be based on corporate press releases.
There's nothing that Watson can do that Amazon Lex/Comprehend/Transcribe/Polly can't do.
Amazon and Microsoft effectively own the cloud space. Google is challenging them, but it remains to be seen how they will fare. IBM and everyone else aren't even a blip on the radar.
IBM makes their money selling mainframes, the databases and middleware that run on them, and the services to support them. They would like you to believe that most of their revenue comes from cloud and AI, but that's just because they've redefined the old to be new again.
If this happened it would be a repeat of Peoplesoft buying JD Edwards then oracle buying Peoplesoft If Amazon really wanted to make this happen, they need to get on their horse, as a new administration would most likely would not allow this
That'd be like the retail arm of Amazon buying up TJ Max's unsold inventory.
