Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Types of Layoffs

  • Quits: Employees who left voluntarily. Exception: retirements or transfers to other locations are reported with Other Separations.
  • Layoffs & Discharges: Involuntary separations initiated by the employer, including:
  1. Layoffs with no intent to rehire
  2. Discharges because positions were eliminated
  3. Discharges resulting from mergers, downsizing, or plant closings
  4. Firings or other discharges for cause
  5. Terminations of seasonal employees (whether or not they are expected to return next season)
  6. Layoffs (suspensions from pay status) lasting or expected to last more than 7 days. (If the employee was later recalled, they should be reported as a Hire at the time of recall.)
  • Other Separations: retirements; transfers to other locations; deaths; or separations due to employee disability

How about "workforce rebalancing" or "Workforce skills remixing". Those are popular IBM talking points with regards to layoffs that never happen.

Age - but we cannot mention that of course. In IBM-SPEKE it would be Refinement and upgrade of Mental processes and technology.
