Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Meaningless SF Tech processes ...

  • 1-Pager, 2-Pager, 3-Pager
  • Portfolio Model / Certification of Value
  • Program Management Office
  • Timesheet Culture
  • BS Agile / ScrumBan
  • Free for all experimentation (no proof of statistical validity)
  • Heavy dependence on contractors
  • Bias to non-action / political paralysis

I could go on ... but I will stop here. Te conclusion remains same:

High Cost San Francisco should be trimmed down by 70% – 30% is good for keeping up Digital Lights on.

What kind of thinking is that? So you’re ok with the execs getting rich while we fight among ourselves? Seriously, you’re sounding more and more like the cto himself. And why have you made it your passion to convince everyone on this anonymous forum that the cto is better than what we think he is?

Again the whole point is last CTO is not a "hero" and the current CTO is not a "villain". They are both Inglorious in the sense that they just have to do what their rich masters (CEO/COO) have instructed them to go. In that process they become little millionaires (notvrich by any standard). The story thus goes on and we fight among ourselves in ATL and SFO!!!

Totally agree. A typical employee wouldn’t be as invested as the original poster. The typical sentiment is, it is what it is, time to move on. But, this person seems unreasonably suspiciously invested in “protecting” the cto, for whatever reason.

You all are simple minded to think this culture exists only with Macy's Tech. This culture is not due to the CTO, but the CEO of Macy's. Unfortunately, the stores group are going through the same thing. Difference is, they are mature and professional enough not to spread evil vindictive posts about their colleges.. You all are not unique in your fear of job loss. Just remember for every door that closes, another opens. You are an intelligent group of individuals, act like it.

This is what went wrong with San Francisco:

The typical SF employee doesn’t keep track of all the processes in JC either. So try again. This is getting tiring. Why do you want to “protect” the current cto anyway? I don’t see why any typical employee would want to do that. Therefore, you must be the current cto himself.

extensive knowledge of SF processes, which I doubt the typical JC employee keeps track of.

Thrrein lies the San Francisco scam – there you go!!

Makes me wonder if this was posted by the cto himself! Quite possible... given the extensive knowledge of SF processes, which I doubt the typical JC employee keeps track of.

The current cto has failed. He has fueled the behavior in this thread. The intense hatred within the company. The layoffs. Everyone is anxious, trying to push each other off the cliff first. All the posts here sound irrational and unproductive. Employees shouldn’t be like this towards each other! The current cto has definitely exacerbated this tension, as he has also displayed similar attitudes against the SF office.

then the cto has definitely failed.

Which CTO – must be the previous one (he had 6+ years of tenure). The new CTO is just in – one year plus. The point of this thread is to protect the new CTO from unfair vested interest critique s.

Laid off Macy's Tech responding here........ These posts are incredibly childish. We all had great jobs with great perks, those days are gone. John's Creek and SF both. Just an FYI, if you are over 50 good luck finding a position with another Tech company with your current rate of pay. You will find work however, this will not be at your current salary. Most of you will be gone by March of 2020. Jobs will be outsourced so start looking now! Waiting for severance pay is not worth it. Besides, it looks like the economy will be tanking by then and work may be hard to find.

More meaningless processes in San Francisco ...

  • Enterprise Architecture Forum (a gossip / banter / venting mechanism)
  • Enterprise Platform Road Show (travel to fly over places)
  • Hackathon (no revenue realizable actions)
  • Tech Talk (just spew BS without any followup accountability)
  • CX/ UX / NPS – what a scam!

Please fire VP / Directors / Senior Managemers in San Francisco (as it was done for Portfolio / PMO / Platform / Enterprise Architecture). Then put rest of heads down employees under the command of Macy's Tech HQ in John's Creek Atlanta.

You can make a lot of the same points (and more) about Johns Creek! The inertia there paralyzes the company. Logistically AND ideologically, Johns Creek far removed from Silicon Valley talent and innovation. If this is the same person who keeps harping about k–l SF, just stop.
