Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Layoffs?

Optum and UnitedHealthcare employees beware: a huge layoff is coming very, very soon. End of October. The entire enterprise is under a HUGE cost cutting exercise for US EMPLOYEES ONLY!! Their model does not include India nor Philippines, so those places are safe. This upcoming layoff could be one of the largest the company has ever seen. Get your resumes up to date and current. Be looking.

I thought this belonged here as well. The original is here: @10wjZZTV-Hmgm.

Just got laid off today. 1000 people were laid off. Rehires will be done offshore.
UHC is mostly operating out of the Phillipines now.

Nothing today in M&R Prior Auth. Except the vibe and very little work. Ominous. I had some emails kick back to directors and sups, which was strange. Will update more tomorrow. Reps still working overtime and no work??? Craziness.

Will the Health Information departments be impacted by layoffs? Scanning and indexing paperwork has all but dried up.

From UHG's Website: Core to Our United Culture are our values of Integrity, Compassion, Relationships, Innovation and Performance. Every day we all have the opportunity to bring these values to life in the choices we make, the actions we take and the words we say.
UHG living NONE of those values in regard to layoffs. ZERO compassion - ZERO assistance in helping even TOP PERFORMERS. At the end of the day, nothing but a faceless employee with a salary. Very sad.

This is happening across the industry. An people from India take higher ranking jobs, they hire only other people from India. HR has no issue with that. This is like how manufacturing left America in the 1980s. These companies no longer care about working Americans.

Any layoffs within M&R expected or consolidation of departments?

Everything I'm reading from people's personal experiences sounds like they are not adhering to the severance policy on HR Direct.

Severance typically 1 week for each year you've been employed, although I've heard GL30s and above are more than that.

I don't understand why UHC or OPTUM is being so secretive. if they are going to do layoffs they should own it & tell everyone so that those people have options to look for other employment instead of being blindsided by it! I also agree with the comment on clinical services. "Since OptumRx takeover earlier this year it went from basically unlimited OT to VTO being offered almost daily due to lack of work." I think there is some sort of team that is taking or doing the work we are/were doing.

We lost 56 in NH Under UHC/OXFORD. Most that I know of are over 20 year employees. They won’t hire in US anymore, only India. All operations jobs. Some supervisors, some upper mgmt but mostly grades 24-25. What can we do besides send letters to our state reps/congress? The company gets a huge tax break last year then goes and does this to their most valuable and seasoned employees. It’s a sad state of affairs.
I think when people are laid off they should get months notice, and packages a lot better than what is being given.
I wonder if a class action can be done to stop this and make them think twice before laying off people that have dedicated their lives!!

Dt Telecommuters arent tied to an office unless youre w/i 20 miles. Reference the post about mailcode.

@11eH9g5b-ayxn I don't how it is everywhere else, but at my location telecommuters "employment site" is the actual work facility, so we would be counted in that number. What this company is doing is disgusting. I haven't been able to eat or sleep ever since hearing this. I'm so worried about being a part of the layoffs it's making me sick. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

When a company with telecommuters considers a shutdown or layoff, it must ask: Where are the telecommuters’ “single sites of employment?” If they are home offices, employees won’t be entitled to notice because the home office won’t meet the 50-person minimum. And in some cases, employees at the central office might lose their right to notice: Since they can’t count telecommuters, the office might not meet the 50-person minimum.

Someone needs to start contacting state government offices. They are not following the WARN ACT for massive layoffs, which requires them to give you 60 days notice in writing... and PAY YOU during those 60 days. And then severance kicks in. This is clearly more than 500 people and they have followed this law. Thisebif you impacted NEED to report this to your state government offices. And also alert the media. Don't let them get away with this!!

Heard layoffs are not over and each area is still being looked at no matter what segment or function or team or UHC or Optum. If your area has not been hit yet then it likely it will be before end of the month and year

I just hope to still have a job after all this is done

3 of the 5 of my team were let go and one of our managers a few days ago. Total for my dept was about 40. I'm more upset at how they delivered the message...cold, no compassion, and completely unprofessional! This is not a demonstration of our UHC values. Pffft.... a bunch of liars! How can you trust a company like this?

Anyone know anything about c&s clinical services/prior auths? Since OptumRx takeover earlier this year it went from basically unlimited OT to VTO being offered almost daily due to lack of work. There’s some sort of “flex team” that seems to be taking all of the work from us

Of course there will be more layoffs. And of course the bosses are telling employees there won't be anymore! The company isn't going to tell us there are more layoffs because we would all walk! They will lie to our faces until they stab us in the back. No one is safe! Utah is a right to fire state. They don't need a reason to let you go. You can be the best employee and still get kicked to the curb.

It was a huge lay off, no need to cover it up. No need to pretend it was something small. Losing 5 to 6 supervisors in a day in one office, is not small

Half our team with GLs from 27 to 31. A few were at UHG more than 10 years. So very rude - termination read from a script like a robot and then LECTURED to sign paperwork properly. No offer to help find other roles at United, in fact pretty much told to start looking outside. Top performing team - all had a 4* review last year except for one person who was in the seat less than a quarter.

Anyone know of layoffs in QuEST? A couple of weeks ago we lost a top person, but there’s been a lot of calls/emails asking about team details, basically “what value does X provide”.... it’s got me nervous.
