Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

This is horrific.

Union Pacific having to many crossing accidents with trains, lives being destroyed, massive job layoffs, yet the stock keeps rising. Lawsuits galore yet its business as usual. I cannot understand this company at all. Lean Six Sigma, is the new Masters degree. I'm barely holding on, in a matter of time the United States will feel this layoff pain because we feel it first. Buckle up guys screw the railroad, its about to get ugly real fast. I want to say thank you Lance for your vision for our families we say thank you for all the hell we have been through.

They have access to large sums of money and we do not. Suggestion, do your job, take their money as long as possible. When you can't take any more of their money, move on.

It’s an excellent basis for comparison. They had zero experience and they did much with very little. This is a tweek of the business plan that has already been done by several others. You may not like it but they’re not chasing ghosts.

@2feb: That was during the 1880s/1890s/1900s when railroads were being built by indentured labor, strikes for better working conditions were put down by bayonets, and wholesale genocide was waged against Native Americans in the name of "building America".

Is that really a good basis for comparison?

Not true. The least experienced workforce was when they first opened for business. And the company grew to massive proportions. Without all said experience.

@1ann: Even before PSR the CEO approval rating was well below 50%, so it isn't as though people thought that he was doing a great job to begin with.

PSR took an already stressed workforce with average morale and plunged it into the abyss. Now UP has to try to carry through with their "Unified Plan 2020" with a broken workforce and a corps of managers that is less experienced and less qualified than at any point the company's history. Good luck with that.

The game they’re playing, not their.

The crossing accidents, derailments, personal injuries, and layoffs are going to continue until an intervention takes place. The intervention can be in any form. You see, the game their playing now is not surprising. Ever wonder why you don't see a news article about the UP laying people off anymore. What they're doing now is rule infractions and incompetence moves. Disagreements will get you a 1.6 AKA insubordination. The incompetence comes in when a job doesn't get completed in a timely manner. This way the layoffs can still take place without the negative news coverage. Ask the mechanical department how it's going for them. The mechanical department has to account for every minute of on-duty time or they have to answer for it. It's the same for the train crews at various locations. If yard crews can't make a work deadline, then they'll answer for it. The UP has the absolute WORST management I've ever seen in a company. I didn't think I've ever witnessed a CEO's approval rating be that low before. Last time I checked Lance's job approval was around 12%. It did dip to 11% before. So if you think about it, he's hovering in the very low 12% range. Now the big question is what was his job approval rating before PSR? I'm betting it was higher than 12%.

Lean Six Sigma == master's degree. Or any other degree for that matter.

LSS is just a professional certificate granted by ASQ at different levels, Black Belt being the highest.

Lean six sigma is not a masters degree or a degree at all. Well it might be a degree at UP since they buy degrees from a catalog for their executives.

Vehicles getting hit at crossings are RARELY the railroad’s fault. PSR has been around for years. What the UP is doing is nothing new. The United States keeps moving freight.
And it’s too for too many.
