Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Time has slowed down at UP

These past six months have been so stressful that they feel more like six years. I don't remember ever feeling as beat up after every workweek as I am these days.

The worst part is it seems like things will get much worse before they get any better. I really wish finding a new job was easier than it is...

There is plenty of opportunity outside of UP! Always look and be ready to jump. You'll get something better and be happier.

OP: Keep trying. The job market is still hot and there's plenty of good jobs out here.

My favorite thing to do while at UP was to work LinkedIn during conference calls when my Senior Manager (aka "director") would be shouting up and down because he hated life. It was during one such call that I got a message from a recruiter and landed great job. No constant on-call/working weekends/canceled vacation, more money, and a realistic personnel policy (i.e. one manager for twenty employees, not the other way around like it is at UP).

Hang in there. If I see a UP resume I'll make sure that they at least get a call back.

Greatest thing to ever happen to me was being furloughed from that evil, toxic company

Agreed.... I feel like my body is starting to break down. Stress level is through the roof.
All the rumors of who is being let go, and possible furloughs have made it difficult to focus on the job itself. 5 fatalities and countless injuries have the big wigs pointing a finger at the employees and placing the blame on us. IT is not a healthy work environment any more. I want to leave, but that would be hard due to age and seniority being lost. Tsk Tsk Union Pacific Execs.
