First of all... the service cisco paid to claim it was the number 1 place to work, doesn't even have them at number 1... they are at number six (6) currently. Pretty Sad.

Secondly, the underhandedness goes well beyond what the other poster describes. Because the title of the list is intentionally worded to mislead readers into thinking Fortune Magazine did the ranking. The survey result list is titled the "Fortune 100 Best places to work". Most people would misread that thinking its Fortune (Magazine): 100 Best Places to Work. All to mislead you, dear friends.

Cisco, in parallel with paying this service (called "Great Place to Work dot Com" – be sure to check out their site - its a pay to play service) to simply add them to a manufactured list, Cisco actually BOUGHT banner ads on Foturne Magazine's site, knowing people will mistakenly go there to see if Cisco was ranked #1. The banner ads, and the ONLY the banner ads say Cisco is number 1.

Fortune Does NOT Rank Cisco #1
Great Place to Work.com Does NOT Rank Cisco #1
Forbes Does NOT Rank Cisco #1
The Employees Do NOT Rank Cisco #1

What SCUMBAGS we work for.

Cisco can be a great place to work if you are

  • politically well connected
  • enjoy the perk of being paid well and not working too hard (I do know in some departments they bleed you, sorry)
  • enjoy living in a bubble and enjoy koolaid

However, as you get into your 40s and your years of service mount up, your days are counted. It's not you, it's a McKinsey team providing organizational optimization guidelines based on an id–tic formula. Which the leadership team endorses even when it turns on them (their packages are better believe it or not).

Cisco is a great place to work for millenials that didn't make it into the top tier of silicon Valley companies. They'll vote Cisco the best company to work for... Well, until they hit their 40s.:-)

If Cisco is still around.

some of it may be psychological.

  • off a pile of people, perhaps older perhaps not
  • remaining will feel they were privileged to not be offed
  • review comes along, only those left can answer.... and they're happy cuz they weren't laid off
  • 1 year passes, kool aid wears off
  • you get laid off, and the cycle continues...

How much money does Cisco spend on Fortune advertisements and consulting services?

Was impacted after more than a decade of exceptional performance and rapid promotions.

You can’t build a career with Cisco.

Fortune should survey the nearly 40,000 employees impacted by layoffs. How many families were impacted by these layoffs?

Really, 95% of employees feel secure and that's a big financial driver for shareholders … what planet are Fortune on (well, I guess the company does only get rid of 5% at a time!)

Wonder how much that cost them in advertising dollars . . .
