Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

How's it going with the door greeters working the desk?

When we're paired with a greeter, it's like trying to herd cats. They've never worked a cash register. Their don't understand computers. I'm waiting on my members, and the greeter ask me the same questions over and over. How do I make a card or do a return or make a payment. It's exhausting. Most of the time, they're stationed at the door. Fine by me. Leave them there. That's how it is at our store. How's it going in yours?

My club uses membership for breaks and lunches at the door but our greeters DO NOT do the desk.

I totally agree. All of ours are very smart have worked their entire life. They work at door for extra money and some just to have something to do. I don't think it's even fair to ask them to do the desk. But I am sure we have a couple that will do it if they have to but it's not there first choice.

First let me say I am not a door greeter. I am a supervisor. Most of the greeters at our club have had good careers doing their life time. They are smart and knowledgeable. They are not stupid. Some of the younger associates might think twice about commending them. Instead try t learn from them.

Agreed, this company is heartless. They fired an old guy at our store for being slow. He'd been a charter member. Karma is waiting and you know what they say about Karma

I never said they were old. More like they were in the special-needs educational programs. They just can't grasp the concepts. Not everyone is cut out for every job. They do well at the door, checking cards and scanning receipts, but that's about it.

The lady in the wheelchair has the most trouble and I know they're going to fire her, the same as they fired the autistic man in another store. https://wpde.com/news/local/florence-community-outraged-over-longtime-sams-club-greeter-being-laid-off Talk about a nasty company.

Not one of our door greeters knows how to use a computer. Don’t have one at home either. One can’t count money, not the change, not the bills, guess they never learned . Surprisingly they learned the computer real easy. Was surprised. Thing is, for me anyway, the door is so boring I want to tear my hair out.

Our club has them working the desk and with the proper training they are doing extremely well. Just because they are older doesn't mean they don't know anything or are slow. All you young people could learn alot from the older people. Give them a chance in your store, they might actually do good. We had our doubts but they proved us wrong.

@gyk

I think you're wrong. Cross-training is a good thing and I think we need a lot more of it in this company. We could start with RM's training in maintenance. All of them should be required to clean all of the toilets and stalls thoroughly in each and every club they visit. MM's should learn to fine art of running carts and cleaning the sludge out of the floor drain in the snack bar. VP's should be trained in covering the COS and Member Service desks on Saturday so they understand how happy all of our members are with the corporate changes. John Furner should know how to fix the plumbing in clubs so that they can continue to operate without the need to close for months at a time. Dracula Smith should know how to clean and maintain all the meat cutting equipment. If everybody chips and and cross trains we can do great things as a company.

MOST of the door greeters signed the paper that they would be able to do the job and did some of the CBLs. But, have yet to do any of that OR the cross training. It was mentioned that they would do some returns at the door on the iPads. That hasn't started.
I think this whole thing is a messy sham.

Door greeters are not doing desk at my store. We open both entrance and exit door at 7:00 am . We have one door greeter scheduled. Someone else does exit door. This is a couple of months now. Do all
your stores do the same?

Sam's is a joke. Whoever came up with the BS around this ridiculous cross training needs to be fired. Not everyone is good for certain jobs and some are perfect for other jobs. Common sense that is obviously missing at the highest levels. Again, treating everyone like their robots.

They don’t work the desk at my club. Sad. We lost some good door greaters because they were told they would have to work the desk.

We don't have them work the desk at our club either. They are all older and really don't want to learn how to do it. They get frustrated and then they get nervous. So we just don't ask them to do it.

No door greeters at the desk here.
They were never told they are even supposed to train at the desk, and will not be given the option to train at the desk.
