Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I have an experiment

If you went out on disability and were laid off within a year of comming back give a thumbs up. This should be interesting.

So I went out on leave end of 2018/beginning of 2019. I was provided bogus information from Sedgwick (third party administrator) regarding a "New Verizon Policy" regarding leave of absences, FMLA (intermittent - iFMLA and continuous - cFMLA). Basically Sedgwick said that VZ implemented a new policy stating that REGARDLESS of what your Medical Certification States - (which is completed by your Healthcare Provider), if you are out for over 5 consecutive days you needed to file a new cFMLA claim and that you could not use your iFMLA (exp - you were approved for iFMLA 10 days a months 8 hours a day - even though you have the approved Medical Certification for the iFMLA available.

When I asked for the physical documentation if this new policy - NO ONE in HR was aware of such document and neither VZ or Sedgwick could provide produce it.

I brought this to HR and MGT attention along with the fact that Sedgwick automatically opened NUMEROUS cFMLA claims on my behalf, without my approval or any notification (again wrong). I was told they would investigate it.

Bsically Sedgwick approved dates submitted with iFMLA - only to reverse the approved dates over 2 months later (again - this is against the law).

Once I returned I was placed in a final warning (which, when presented was completely BLANK and I signed due to pressure from my manager, but was sure to include "V.C." (Latin for Vi Coactus) for 6 months - which expired in August.

This past October I was told by VZ the investigation was complete and they decided to end my employment due to the dates that were now denied by Sedgwick!

I found out that Sedgwick had serious iFMLA reporting issues in December of 2018, notified Verizon in April 2019, and in June the issue was still not resolved.

All of this is just the general series of events. Luckily I recorded all calls between Sedgwick and VZ (informed both parties of the calls being recorded), have screen shots, internal documents, recorded calls, you name it I have it.

Also I was a top employee - received over 28 awards, promoted 4 times and was recognized as being in the top 1% Nationwide for performance.

If anyone has had a similar issue I would love to compare notes. And for those thinking why haven't you not filed a law suit.... I never said that I haven't.

Sorry for the long post - please feel free to tell me about your own experiences - this sh– is wrong.

I could share a dozen stories. We had one with prostate cancer and got it taking care of and didn't miss hardly any work and walking him right out the door 3 months later. Any other had 1 episode diabetic and got walked out the door. Another with a bad heart, probably after years working for VSW and was ran off after putting him thru hell. Etc etc etc

Just google this : “Verizon Media CEO explains how 5G is about more than super-fast downloads” and stop and think if our leaders really understand what we do. Then ask do they deserve what they are paid. It’s not this one post it’s across the board

Sounds like someone is just looking for ammo to trash unions or union workers. As for disability, I’ve been on it several times. That’s what happens when you use your body as a tool for your whole career. Funny.. no one objects to you going above and beyond and taking risks with your wellbeing. We have stupid safety videos and then you’re expected to go out and go, what the damn video just expressly told you not to.

Had we followed every single rule the company issued, whether it was work or safety or policy related, guess what? Nothing, and I mean nothing would get done. So we wind up bending and breaking YOUR rules, to accomplish YOUR work, so you can pat YOUR selves on the back. And you know it’s being done. But the second someone from above puts heat on you, instead of protecting the people who make your job necessary.. you go head hunting to score brownie points.

And then, after stretching body, leg, and limit for years, and they begin to deteriorate, become more prone to injury, etc you spit in our faces with contempt. And then try to cry about how hard YOU HAVE it. Boo effing hoo!

Maybe if you’d taken care of the workers who took care of you, it’d be a different world. And then you come on here and trash those doing the work. Unreal. Go eff yourselves.
