Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Really? A name change increases sales 20%. Yeah right.

For heaven’s sake. First the suit clad brain trust asserts that the reason Lincoln’s were not selling was because they did not have letters and numbers in their names like other luxury vehicles. Now they claim that the Lincoln’s were not selling because the names had letters and numbers in them.
OK who do they think they are fooling?

Yo Jim and Bill here is a free tip, focus on QUALITY, SAFETY, RELIABILITY and FIT and FINISH. The name does not matter. If you build an excellent vehicle whatever you name it will become a synonym for excellence. When you build poor quality vehicles, whatever you name it will become a synonym for junk.

I recall a Porsche ad showing the silhouettes of 911 through time and had text below stating that if an automaker is touting their all new designs every 3 years, then their designs must not be very good.

Porsche knows their brand, and stays true to it (for the most part).

That is so true. As a person who worked for Ford and one of the foreign competitors I saw first hand that the competitor did not redesign all aspects of their vehicles every few years because it was too difficult to maintain quality with frequent full redesigns or new designs. They improved and perfected what already worked. It was more of an evolution than a frequent re-do. I still occasionally see some of the competitors 20+ year old vehicles on the road and they don’t look bad.

Fords foreign competitors focus on continuous improvement resulting in better quality, and reliability. Ford Focus is directed more towards design, and technology. Competition make small changes, ford makes radical changes resulting in massive problems. Foreign competition top leadership is stable, ford changing. See a pattern here. The new guy has a better idea, but the company is still led by beaners.

I wonder if anyone has realized that building a car is a little bit more complicated than building office furniture.

Can't fix the culture, or the deminishing talent pool , so we are left with the smoke and mirrors

Nail on head! Now we can add the BS "Design Thinking" that brought us the current Exp/ Aviator debacle. We are only getting started because they've been pulling massive timing and testing out of the other programs. Will be a constant c-ap show going forward.

And it’s hard to find the time to focus on quality when they’re so busy bickering about names.
