Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

How can you trust a company like this?

3 of the 5 of my team were let go and one of our managers a few days ago. Total for my dept was about 40. I'm more upset at how they delivered the message...cold, no compassion, and completely unprofessional! This is not a demonstration of our UHC values. Pffft.... a bunch of liars! How can you trust a company like this?

Good post from @11eH9g5b-8aeg.

They made people drink the Kool Aid in training, and then put unrealistic expectations on people. I’m glad to be done.

Totally agree with you! Tip: be careful about participation in vital signs focus groups if they try to encourage you to do that. A number of us on my team were basically forced to participate in them for the first time due to a lack of volunteers. Despite being civil during the meetings, almost everyone in attendance was mentioning the same kinds of things that are being discussed on this site. We were told flat-out that the information goes to managers who also reach out to senior leadership, so it is not really anonymous as they have ways of figuring out who said what. We came up with a number of ideas to handle some of these issues, but were immediately met with frequent pushback from the manager responsible for our group. It was clear they did not want to hear things like additional compensation for employees, better health insurance/benefits, or really anything that involved increased costs to the company. Surprise, most of us from our group were then laid off before we could complete our vital signs focus group. They had to postpone holding vital signs focus group meetings since most of the participants were no longer employees. UHG only cares about more and more money for the higher-ups - that's it and it has been getting much worse. No employment stability whatsoever!

As a current employee, I am starting to feel much differently than the past. It would be one thing if the company was struggling and had to cut positions. It's a different story when they are continuing to grow and are cutting off the most skilled and knowledgeable workers to save a few bucks. Meanwhile, the rest of us that have been overworked for years will have to clean up the mess when upset members and providers come to us to resolve their issues. It seems like the Vital signs are important to the company, but we already took it this year. I heard that my department will be taking it more frequently so I plan to provide feedback. Just remember this if you don't get to do vital signs until next year.
