Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Time to make your plans

We are just over 3 months away from the traditional time of year that the company shows its true colors and screws the same people who just worked long hours and missed spending time with their families to get them through the holidays. Better get your backup plans finalized and do unto them before the do unto you.

Life is better outside the club!

So if marketing TL goes away that is only under 1 job code. Don't you think they would give severance for that position

I know at my club the evening crew never leaves at 11:30pm its well past midnight when they leave. I guess the worse thing going on at my club is the amount of mix pallets that continue to accumulate. We have an entire aisle in our groceries dept that has nothing but mixed pallets slotted down the aisle. CIM is a thing of the past because no one has the time to keep it maintained. The company I believe tries to improve things but they add all these new things and continue cutting jobs and make it impossible for there new ideas to work properly. All clubs at this point or doing what they can do to get by

4 people on 3 to 1130 shift > what a luxury..we often have only three..the cashiers are never required to stock before 7 am or after 830 pm...and boy let me tell you what floor folks better be able to each do the stocking of three people doing an 8 hour shift..but remember to get done in 3 hours...

@1tus
You will be much happier. They use & abuse everyone nowadays. Give ZERO ....'s about any associate or club level managers.
Walk away with your head held high first because they are just waiting to send as many away as they can with their tails between their legs. Beaten & broken. Especially those of us that have truly cared and give our all everyday. Sanity is better than this insanity

UNDER STAFFED is the new reality and its ridiculous! My GM told me we were "Over staffed" 2-3 months ago. HA, what a joke. I can't wait to get the F–k Out of Sam's. I've been dreading Nov-Jan for months and refuse to go through another A– stomping, overwhelming, wringer,sh– show again. Cutting, splitting and staking wood was easier than trying to stock and organize the dep I work in. Just me, myself and I. No team . I've busted my a– and given 200%, physical and mentality exhausted myself and got no where. Then I woke up.....its time to hit the road Jack. Theres another company out there that will appreciate my loyalty and hard work.
Sorry Sam, but the dream has died.

I'm in the southeast. I've worked in three clubs around this market and three in the midwest during my time with this wretched company. There was a time when it seemed that our fearless and dependable leaders in Bentonville were somewhat interested in at least trying to be competitive with Costco. The changes this past June have wreaked havoc in every club I'm aware of, since I stay in contact with as many of the people I worked with in the past as I can and visit numerous other clubs whenever I have the opportunity. There's something very interesting to me about the negative effects these moves have had on all the clubs I know of and hear about. It used to be that there were certain clubs that struggled regardless of what was going on but now it really feels like all of them are, which really isn't surprising. Removing the overnight crew is a very big deal and to heap all that work on two separate crews, each of whom have 3 hours to get it done with far fewer people among them is totally asinine. I would love to meet the person or persons who came up with that and have them spend a week visiting every store in our market just so they can see the results firsthand.

I talk to members quite a lot during the day as well as when I'm off. Many of them are now going to the new Costco next door and don't intend to renew their membership. Some are closer to the BJ's and are shopping there instead. All of them are unhappy and say the same things and ask the same questions, usually starting with, "What happened?" And I just flat out tell them. It really boggles the mind because this used to be a lot of fun; like a paid activity. Now it feels like watching something self-destruct by design.

I started as a stocker in the freezer and cooler overnight. I've been a grocery, hardlines, and center section team lead, and was an overnight receiver for over seven years. Now I'm relegated to working 3 to 11:30 and I'm disgusted and bored because the real work only amounts to 3 hours and passes in a flash while the other 5 seems to take forever. The store from Monday to Friday is like a morgue and weekends are slower than they used to be, especially since the Costco opened next door less than two months ago. That said, and factoring in how much they customarily crush us in every single way possible, I give this club two years and it will be closed and it's only been around since 2012.

@rgt you sound like you work at our club. Central ca? Also sounds like my old club in SoCal.
But then again, sounds like many clubs across the country.

@rgt I got anxiety just by reading your post. Can you please come back and post your inventory results? It's got to be an outrageous number. I feel sorry for anyone having to participate in dollar difference day.
Seems like a lot of clubs are feeling this way. I also wish there were some clear answers. The only thing I can say for certain is HO does not care one bit. If they don't then why should we? I'm so done with this place.

In the last week, we've lost five people from the 3-11:30 shift. Two of them were seasoned lift drivers. The last three nights we've had to go with 4 people or less and that includes the team lead. Our inventory is October 27 and they only just started prepping so that's less than 3 weeks to get everything in the steel and whatever comes in, pre-counted and tagged. There are over 60 pallets of clothing sitting on the dock, 75% of which have never made it out to the floor and that's been literally accumulating for months. Freight hasn't been CIM'd into the steel for several months as well and there are now several hundred ghost pallets. We have numerous sections of steel that can't be used because the uprights need to be changed out. Entire DCs, paper, water, coke, pepsi, beer, wine, frozen & dairy, are run to the steel or to the coolers during the day while there are members trying to shop, blocking off aisles and tying up associates for spotting, lifts don't get watered regularly and start to malfunction, or no one puts them on the chargers because freight piles up on the dock and you have to spend all this additional time to clear a simple path, managers and leads don't communicate with one another or disregard each other's instructions for associates leaving many people confused as to what the actual directive is, there's holes everywhere throughout the store often waiting for product that's actually in the steel and not getting dropped so they can be shopped. The list of things that are falling apart since June is seemingly endless and it just gets worse. And what of the members who are having their shopping experience affected by all this? Anyone care to estimate how many are just going to go next door to Costco, who's parking lot always seems to be full while ours is looking rather sparse? The GM seems to have become a hologram; a guy on a portrait inside the entrance but never physically present anywhere on the property. I talk to people from many other clubs and hear many of the same things and worse in some cases.

It's clear that clubs are severely understaffed and barely able to function. I'm curious if there's anyone out there reading the discussion on this site, who has the spine to address this stuff and give their opinion on what they think is going on. We're talking about the next round of layoffs and it seems like they need everyone they can get. Is that the present and future strategy? Is this how a company stays competitive? Lowering the overall quality of the majority of the clubs targets value and convenience? Seriously? If you're goal is to drive members away, the things that are going on right now are driving your rate of success through the roof toward achieving that.

One thing I can tell you is that the grass roots survey was fun. I had a chance to unload quite a number of things the other night. I'd urge everyone else to do the same. Not that it makes any difference. No one will end up reading that stuff anyway. It's just a neat little thing that gives one the impression that their input is important for about 5 minutes before the feeling disappears.

F— Walmart.

They'll work you over anytime of the year. They just fired a guy at our place, and dude been there since the store opened. They fired him for being too slow. Wasn't old when he started, but he stayed loyal to the company and look what they did to the poor s—er.
