Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This says it all

An insider just sent me this. Explains a lot why Ford Motor is in the shape it is in today - Junior has been mucking around there for 40 years, and his daughter in on the Autonomous Car team. can't make this stuff up, folks!!

"Executive Chairman Bill Ford is celebrating his 40th anniversary with the company founded by his great grandfather. He started in 1979 as a product planning analyst, and today his vision for making people’s lives better is guiding Ford Motor Company into the future.

To recognize Bill for his extraordinary service, we will mark the occasion on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. in the WHQ Auditorium with a fireside chat with Bill hosted by his daughter Alexandra Ford English who is on Ford’s Autonomous Vehicle team."

@ewig One word.... nepotism. Regardless of competency.

Do you actually work for Autonomous and know she's bad? Or is it that's she's young then she must be bad????

I'm not defending her, but no one is giving a reason why its a bad decision to put her up there.

@11r9cgS6-6nuh Fratricide has been the name of the game at Ford going all the way back to its namesake who encouraged his underlings to duke it out with each other – including his own son. Hank the Deuce also played games with his top lieutenants who were always jockeying for the top spot underneath him. It is embedded in the culture, and Mulally was able to pause it temporarily while he ran the company in crisis mode. But as soon as he left and the fat profits started rolling in the door everyone defaulted back to the old backstabbing culture.

EF is not competent and has no business managing people. I wonder what PR firm they hired to make her seem more human. All those LinkedIn shares of her reading to children drives me insane as I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with her a few years ago. She's mean and treats people like c-ap. If your last name is Ford, there is no one willing to do anything about bad behavior. HR overlooks all of it.

Unconscionable hubris infects F. The place suffers from non-stop fratricide, the go to task for all leaders every day is "how do I knock out my peers to get to the next level - or at least be sure if I dont, they dont"
Hackett is just another (and indeed rare in that it is available for public viewing) instance of this. The last CEO - Mark - got the job and promptly tossed out the outside instilled sanity (from Mulally) - and started gunning for the other princes that did not get the nod, knowing full well they were doing their utmost to try and unseat him from the second he took the crown. One, or perhaps a combination, of the princes were successful in taking the legs out from under the new king, and all left were ok with the temporary "cerebral" placeholder, knowing that it was game on for all of them again to fight each other to the end for the crown - as the "cerebral" king has not got what F needs now.
Look deeper at the Nair story - perhaps (not sure) another example of princes at work eliminating peers.

Less than competent family members have been put in positions of power at the company since the beginning of time. The problem now is that the industry is so hypercompetitive and Ford cannot give away important and influential positions to someone solely because of their last name. It's just crazy.

H3 sure seems like he had it easy to find interesting positions to work at Ford despite the lack of relevant skill/experience (old articles... apparently you make it into the NY Times when you are a Ford scion):
https://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/14/business/henry-ford-iii-26-takes-a-job-at-ford.html

https://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/28/meet-29-year-old-henry-ford-iii-the-next-scion-in-line-for-the/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAD7yxY9ZNC3pYebOKI0fwaLNYM5lh8Vh_gEAm_m8fn65sOUHZSHMcK4d5LocQB5nFxYn8jShciSx96ktePAKcWCu7YksaikTFovmbtkvr2PzehJPU_UMz7ugd38i1XEBHfdAEdy3mgbp0DP2WXYzjTg8q0KW3IlPUeHV_EJINgvV

But let's not single him out: it's quite dubious that a number (all?) of Ford family members deserve their high positions in the company, and it sure is poor leadership to let that happen!

The question I have is who is someone with the last name of Ford accountable to? If WCF Jr's daughter reports to you, are you going to give her a negative performance review if she makes a bad decision, or are you just going to wait it out until she gets shuffled to her next rotation on her way to the top?

She's a graduate of Harvard just like Henry the 3rd is a graduate of MIT-Sloan. Word is that H3 partied his way through the program and was on the verge of getting kicked out until daddy signed a fat check. Then he went from schoolteacher to director of Ford Performance almost overnight. A wealthy scion attending and graduating from an elite school means absolutely nothing. They get accepted because the families pad out their multi-billion dollar endowments. I have heard from multiple people who have worked with H3 that he has absolutely no idea what he is doing. Ditto for EF. And they are both in important roles. Until the family steps away from the business entirely and lets actual professionals run it they will continue to bungle their way through and make silly decisions like hiring the Furniture Man to run the company because he's a Friend of Bill.

She went from an MBA intern to Director in one year (biology undergrad and MBA). That is what you call a fast track! Look her up on Linkedin.

Further supports the original poster argument - this is who is running your companies future.
