Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

PSE FUTURE

I've heard PSE to go away in 2020 and categories will be dropped or go to "Furnish & Install"
I've also heard DSSM role will combine with DSM and take on additional specialty responsibilities

If the DSM and DSSM roles combine, who gets to take on the new role and who is let go?

The dsm and dssm roles combine. We just got official word. That is where the headcount reduction is, not pse.

Actually I have run a home improvement business Einstein. It’s called a construction office in most other companies. In any sales/install organization, there is a sales department and an installation department... as well as a service dept. Sales vs. fulfillment. They complement one another. Did the guy who sold you your alarm system install it too? Service it? No. Salespeople are hired to sell. Build a relationship. Build value. Handle objections. Close the deal. Installers are hired to install. The construction office personnel are hired to manage the production and fulfillment portion of the sale while coordinating deliveries and working with installers. In other words, MAINTAIN the relationship and expectations set when the project was sold. You seem to feel that the salesperson does all of those things. Before you resort the tired “millennial” humor (to a 50 year old mind you) get your thumb out of your as* and learn something. Salespeople are literally hired to sell. They generate the revenue, which is why they get paid a commission. That’s the industry. The large portion of the installed sales offices here do nothing to service the project we sell and instead resort to complaining about having to call customers, work with installers or God forbid do something out of their comfort zone. Easier to just bitc* about a PSE. You’re probably one of them and if the program ever does go away, it will be because of people like you, with an inability to understand his/her own job description. You’ve also probably never sold a thing in your life.

To the genius that is sensitive to the “install office “, I would guess that you never ran your own business and have no clue about customer service and building relationships with customers. You must be a millennial!!

To the genius who complained that the “installed sales office” has to actually manage the project after its sold, that’s how it works in literally every in home sales organization. In home salespeople (PSE’s) are literally paid to go to a home, conduct a sales presentation and CLOSE. That generates revenue and earns them a commission. It is not the salespersons Job (in any organization) to them manage the damn fulfillment and installation. 90% of the “installed sales” offices don’t do a thing to manage the fulfillment portion of an “installation” project, yet it is literally in their job title.

I dont think it will go away. Im leaning towards the HD/Sears/BJs/Sams model. Probably go pseudo third party on a more regional basis. Also thinking they may go to legacy like flooring, sell detail, tell the customer the price and let em call for the work.
The reality is it is a money maker for Lowes but they could trim middle management and probably a third of the PSEs to have 3-5 per current district and still make money.

The program is so broken anyway... It isn't run the right way and all the PSE's care about is the commission. Once the job sells they wash their hands and move on with no concerns for the customer. Then the install office has to deal with all the headaches, mistakes, etc......

Good because they were all getting away with a lot of unethical things they were doing and management never caught it......
