Retiree Medical Plans for 2020 - Yikes!! Did active employees plans go up?

Just saw rates for next year - 2 new plans. I pay $0 now for me/family, next year it will be $430 per month for the same coverage with doubled out of pocket max numbers. I figured this would happen soon but not this large of an increase!! Still better than outside alternatives, but a bit shocked.

Just curious if active employee medical plans are way up too??

Thanks!

I retired last year under the incentives offered. Insurance was $0/month. Now it's gone up to $215/month. I feel like I was lured out only to be unpleasantly surprised after one year. I've got to wonder if this was in the plan all along.

Ford Active Salary benefits have stayed the same... My cost for life insurance went up $4/month . That's it.

Just received the COBRA costs for 2020. I hired in after 2004 so I didn't qualify for healthcare benefits when I retired early. The COBRA costs for high deductible plan for myself and spouse goes from $400 month to $789 for 2020.
I retired early due to health issues. The positive side is all my health issues went away when I retired.

Yes, how can we stop paying for health care? Get sick or need surgery without health care and you’ll be in more debt than most could manage.

@3bvh How are we supposed to stop paying the ridiculous prices? Everyone needs healthcare. If not now then as we get older.

The healthcare industry continues to raise prices just because they can. It's profit driven and they have an endless supply of victims, I mean customers. So when you need that operation that will save your life, you will probably pay whatever price they are asking. No matter how ridiculous.

The only way healthcare will stop rising is when YOU stop paying the rediculus prices. As long as we continue to pay the prices they will continue to raise them, you cannot blame Ford for this. Actually Ford is doing us a favor by not paying, in the end you won't be able to pay it either and hopefully the system collapses.

Some say Hackett is one of Ford’s most highly compensated CEOs so it’s shameful the way they are treating employees and retirees while giving such rich compensation to a leader who seems to be taking the company in the wrong direction. In the past Ford was considered to be an ethical company. Obviously that has changed.

What a joke - shows what Ford and Hackett really think about retirees to charge incremental $5000 more for worse medical plan in one year for people on fixed income. Is Ford in so bad of shape that this was necessary financially??

You can’t assume that a ford retiree is getting 100k a year. I’m a ford retiree and my pension and social security combined are not 100k. When retired you are on a fixed income and unexpected increases can be difficult to absorb.

No kidding,
Salaried are the same as contract
100k a year and they are complaining.

Agree it is still better than plans in the exchange - it is the degree of change that is crazy. Again - from $0 to $430. It is what it is.

Ford retirees are being pushed down an ever increasing slippery slope. I see a time - very soon, when they drop all retiree benefits. It really provides no benefit to Ford to keep paying for it, right?

Zuks that you have to pay this year but $450/month for HC - family is a super cheap. ACA exchange opens on Nov 1st. Similar family plan to the one you are getting for $450 would be roughly $1500/month and deductible would be $13k before you wee to get any coverage from the insurance company.

Auto companies are in a tough spot going forward - I know most do not want to hear this. Next 5 - 7 years there are going to be mergers/acquisitions and flat out - out of business.

Thank the electric revolution as margin will be super slim and no one will be forced to buy them.

I also retired in Nov 2018. For 2019, I had the PPO 2000 + HSA for $0 per month for family.

OP's point is that this option is not available for 2020. Lowest cost plan for family is $430 per month. It is a double hit because the out of pocket maximums have almost doubled.

Ford site has the usual paragraph about rising health care costs.....

I figured Ford would go after Retiree Benefits to save some money. Glad I took the lump sum pension!

there are no plans that cost $0/month. One is $430/month (family) and the other is $580/month (family)

PPO3600 +HSA is $430/month. I currently pay $0 per month for a high deductable plan as of my retiring in Nov '18. They do not offer a $0 plan anymore as they did for 2019. Check out the Ford Retiree benefit site.

For me, I now have no choice, as $430 is the lowest plan.

The plan costs are the same as last year! No clue where you're getting $430 a month. The only thing that changed from last year is that we can put more money in the HSA accounts. That is a better benefit for us. No medical costs went up at all.
